The International Development Law Organization, IDLO, is launching a program to strengthen the criminal justice chain in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

The Sahel region faces security and development challenges that are particularly acute. Respect for the human and other rights of local communities and trust between security and defense forces and these populations is essential to restoring peace and stability in the region.

Together with its partner UNODC, IDLO is launching a program to strengthen the criminal justice chain to be implemented in the border area between Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. IDLO's program component is aimed at strengthening traditional criminal justice systems, in order to contribute to the restoration of trust between the institutions of the penal chain and the people.

This five-year program takes a very innovative and reflective approach, adapted to the context and designed to respond effectively to the needs of local justice. The core of the approach is to create coordination mechanisms for the justice sector at the local level, in the affected regions, and capacity building.
