The Scope
As a key member of the Digital Communications team, the UI/UX Officer will be responsible for designing and improving the user experience and user interface of our digital products. The ideal candidate will work closely with the project owners and developers to ensure intuitive, engaging, and effective user experience across all platforms. 
Main Roles & Responsibilities
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews, user research to understand user needs, behaviors, pain points, and user journeys to take informed design decisions.
  • Ensure that the user insights are translated into actionable design recommendations.
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and high-quality mock-ups to effectively present design ideas for our digital products and applications. 
  • Create designs for appealing and user-friendly interfaces for web and mobile applications.
  • Ensure designs are consistent with branding guidelines and industry standards. Work closely with product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of design with stakeholder needs and project briefs keeping in mind the technical aspects.
  • Organise and coordinate brainstorming sessions on design and user experience discussions.
  • Plan and conduct usability tests to gather feedback and validate design concepts.
  • Create and maintain design documentation, style guides, and UI patterns.
  • Advocate for best practices in UI/UX design and ensure they are implemented across all projects and platforms.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest UI/UX trends, tools, and technologies. 
  • Evaluate and propose simplified, intuitive user journeys for existing and new digital products.
  • Continuously assess and seek opportunities to improve the user experience and interface of our digital products.
  • Ensure that FSC’s web and mobile applications ’design and interface are cohesive and harmonious across the board. 
  • Additional tasks as agreed with the Digital Communications Programme Manager.

Your profile

Qualification, Experience and Skills

  1. Working Education and Training: 

  1. University degree in Design, UI/UX, Web Management, Computer Science, or related field.

  1. Working Experience, Style and Skills: 
  2. At least 3 years   of proven experience on customer-centric user experience, user interfaces, website development, and product management. 
  3. An in-depth understanding of user-centered design principles and their application to digital product development. 
  4. Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Figma, or similar.
  5. Proven experience in creating wireframes, prototypes and user flows for both and web and mobile applications, with a portfolio demonstrating design work. 
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to derive insights, decisions, and action plans from data. 
  7. Excellent communications skills with capability of articulating design choices to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
  8. Familiarity with agile web and applications development practices and methodologies
  9. Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a plus.
  10. Self-starter who can work independently as part of an international and multicultural team.
  11. Has a deep commitment to responsible forestry and/or broad sustainability in alignment with FSC’s mission.

  2. Excellent communication skills to collaborate with product owners, developers, and other stakeholder to achieve top quality results. 
  3. Ability to develop strong, positive relationships with external and internal stakeholders geared towards FSC’s mission.
  4. Languages: 
    1. Fluency in English (spoken and written). 
    2. Proficiency in Spanish and French is a plus. 
  5. Computer Skills – good skills in the use of/experience with:
  6. High level of competence with Microsoft Office suite.
  7. Competence in Adobe creative suite. 
  8. Understanding of content management systems such as Drupal.
  9. Familiarity with project management tools such as Azure DevOps.
  10. Knowledge of Google Analytics is a plus.
  11. Familiarity with HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

The Fine Print
Terms and Conditions
  • Location: Bonn, Germany.
  • Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
  • Duration of Employment: Initial 2-year contract with intent to extend. 
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible.
  • Travel: Sporadic travel required.
