Background:
UNESCO Iraq Office will be implementing the Phase III of the project Reviving Mosul and Basra Old Cities. The aim of the Phase III of the Project, funded by the European Union, is to create the right conditions for local stakeholders to take over the process of urban and cultural revitalization by supporting them to develop policy frameworks while building up capacities at each step of the process: decision makers, community representatives, academics, technical agents, and workers involved in the recovery of the Old Cities and the promotion of their cultural life.

Work Assignmnet:
In this dynamic role, the Consultant will play a pivotal part by reporting to two distinct management lines, Senior Project Officer and Public Information and Donor Relations Officer. His/her responsibilities will be thoughtfully divided across list of duties as per below, requiring a high level of organizational finesse and adaptability. It is essential that the Consultant coordinates his/her efforts with both line managers, ensuring clear communication and collaboration. While distinct tasks will be assigned, fostering effective information flow between management lines will be a key aspect of Consultants’ success in this position.
Duties
The Consultant will be under the overall authority of the Director of the office, overall supervision from the Head of Culture, and the direct supervision of the Project Officer and Public Information and Donor Relations Officer and in close coordination and cooperation with Project Team Leader in Basrah:
• Collaborate and coordinate with UNESCO's Culture Unit and Public Information and Donor Relations Officer to execute Phase III of the Project's communication plan in Basra, in line with the Communication and Visibility Plan elaborated by UNESCO and the EU Com. and visibility strategy.
• Accompany project team and Public Information and Donor Relations Officer and missions, when requested, to project sites and produce visibility materials immediately after the visits .
• Monitor project timelines and deadlines, adjusting as needed to ensure timely delivery of high-quality work.
• Keep a record and archive all visibility materials on the project dedicated server and backup hard disk, ensuring files are regularly updated.
• Develop and implement a content strategy aligned with UNESCO’s and EU’s communication and visibility goals and target audiences.
• Manage and curate content for social media platforms on a weekly basis, ensuring consistent messaging and brand representation.
• Produce human-interest stories, including written content and various formats such as photographs, videos, audio material, and web stories, with each video preferably accompanied by a short story.
• Initiate and complete templates for different types of social media posts related to Phase III of the Project (e.g., press releases, progress updates).
• Produce high-resolution videos and raw footage of UNESCO activities in Basra, assisting with content development.
• Provide high-resolution photographs of UNESCO activities in Basra, showing progress and cultural practices as instructed by the Project team and Public Information and Donor Relations Officer.
• Provide drone footage in the Old City and edit photographs and videos after filming as required by the Project team and Public Information and Donor Relations Officer.
• Develop multimedia content, including videos, infographics, factsheets, and interactive content, to enhance the organization's online presence.
• Prepare and oversee the production process for printed materials, ensuring quality and adherence to design specifications.
• Develop and maintain the visual identity and branding of the Organization, ensuring consistency across all materials.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the UNESCO Head of Culture, Project Officer, Public Information and Donor Relations Officer including undertaking missions inside Iraq as requested.
• Accompany project team and missions, as requested by supervisors and project team, to project sites and produce visibility materials immediately after the visits.

Other Information related to the assignment:
• Duration: One year with a three-month probationary period, renewable based on project needs, fully satisfactory performance and budget availably.
• Estimated start: 01 October 2024
• Candidate Should be based in Basrah.
• The selected candidate will work “on call” for UNESCO Iraq.
• The Consultant’s services will be paid at the daily rate; the Consultant must quote their proposed daily rate in their application for the position.
• Before each assignment, UNESCO and the Consultant will agree in writing on the number of workdays required to carry out the assignment. Once the deliverables of the assignment have been submitted and approved by UNESCO, the Consultant will invoice UNESCO according to the number of worked days agreed upon and the daily rate they have quoted.
• No additional service costs shall be incurred without proper written authorization of UNESCO.
• The Contractor’s services at daily-rate for the aforesaid professional services are to be paid monthly by UNESCO upon submittal of deliverables, timesheet statement, and payment claim.
Deliverables
The Consultant shall submit the video and photos of the sites on a regular basis; all contents must be provided no later than the actual duration of the contract. The Consultant must submit all the raw materials on regular basis and before the end of the contract via online shared folder and hard disk.
COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)

Qualifications and Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in the field of media, journalism, press, communication and public information and / or other related field
•Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience is required.
•Relevant professional experience, knowledge of graphic design software tools for photo and video editing and creation of high-quality designs
•Excellent communication skills.
•Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to changing project needs.
•A good knowledge of English as a language of professional work and communication.
