Functional Responsibilities


1. Fundraising for the SMS
  • Serve as focal point for a portfolio of assigned donors (governments, intergovernmental organizations, fund and foundations).

  • Contribute to an office-wide consistent and coherent approach to fundraising including coordinated outreach to donors in Capitals, Geneva, Rome and other Permanent Missions in the SUN regional hub locations through regular information sharing of office-wide fundraising policies, strategies, and approaches. 

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of assigned donors' nutrition related policies and analyze opportunities for enhanced cooperation with SUN.

  • Develop and update donor profiles and other briefing materials for the SUN Coordinator and SMS Management.

  • Develop comprehensive donor proposals for the SMS and SUN Movement and ensure all required documents are developed and included when finalising donor agreements.   

  • Support the update and implementation of the donor strategy designed to increase un-earmarked funding.

  • Identify opportunities for fundraising, including outreach to new donors, funds and foundations 

  • Monitor agreements and renewals with donors in cooperation with the Operations Team.

  • Maintain updated contact databases for donors and key partners for fundraising.  

  • Organize high level donor meetings and missions to donor capitals for the SUN Coordinator, SMS Director and other senior staff.

  • Monitoring the use of contributions in order to provide accurate and relevant information to donors.  

  • Updates donors regarding implementation of ongoing projects and forthcoming needs in order to ensure maximum funding stability for SMS and SUN activities. 

  • Prepare regular progress reports to donor governments or foundation partners on the implementation of donor support, in consultation with the Operations Team.

  • Prepare written documentation, correspondence and presentations to donor governments and other SUN stakeholders. 

  • Working in close collaboration with Comms and Operations Teams, support the development of the SMS Annual Report as a key donor advocacy product. 

  • Review and provide input on other outreach/visibility material geared towards donors. 

  • Represent the SUN Movement Secretariat in meetings, conferences etc. on fundraising at the request of the Head of Partnerships, Financing and Network Relations. 

2. Fundraising for the SUN Networks

  • Support and coordinate fundraising efforts of the SUN Networks, including through development of joint fundraising materials, presentations, regular information exchange and joint donor meetings and missions.

  • Explore available modalities for the funding of SUN Networks, including using UNOPS as a pass-through channel.

  • Support the SUN Network secretariats in the development of fundraising strategies and targeted proposals for individual SUN Networks.

  • Support meetings of the SUN Donor Network (SDN) and facilitate engagement of donors in key policy processes and events in consultations with the SUN Networks.

  • If decided to set up a new SUN Movement Pooled Fund, develop the strategy and all foundation documents including fundraising for it. 

3. Private Sector Fundraising and Engagement

  • In consultation with SMS management, develop a comprehensive private sector fundraising and engagement strategy for the SMS and/or SUN, taking into consideration conflict of interest and UN rules and regulations.

  • Support strengthened private sector engagement across the SUN Movement with the SUN Business Network and other GSS partners as appropriate.

  • Support outreach and engagement with private sector partners and key business networks at the global and regional level.

  • Ensure coordinated approaches to private sector across the SMS through regular information exchanges, sharing of materials. 

  • Develop funding proposals for SMS and SUN targeted at the private sector.

4. Knowlegde Management  and Innovation 

  • Collect feedback, ideas, and internal knowledge about processes and best practices and utilize productively to improve fundraising and donor relations in SMS and SUN.

  • Support the facilitation of an internal SMS cross-team fundraising group.

  • Contribute to the development and introduction of innovation to ensure the SMS is continually incorporating best practice approaches.

Education/Experience/Language requirements


Education
  • Advanced University Degree (Masters Degree or equivalent)  preferably in  Public Relations, International Development, Economics or other relevant discipline. 
  • A bachelor's degree preferably in  Public Relations, International Development, Economics or other relevant discipline with a combination of two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted  in lieu of the master's degree

Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of extensive experience in fundraising and donor relations, including in coordination and multistakeholder contexts is required

  • Understanding of donor policies and environment is required. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are required.

  • Excellent writing skills to draft proposals and external communications are required. 

  • Experience in working in developing countries with an understanding of development, human rights or humanitarian issues is desirable.



Languages

  • Full working knowledge of English is essential.
  • Knowledge of another official UNOPS language, particularly French, is an asset
