The Digital Strategy Section in the Division of Global Communication & Advocacy is seeking a Chinese Language Digital Producer to produce web content in Chinese for UNICEF’s global site, and to coordinate Chinese translations of multimedia assets and social media products in coordination with the China Country Office.

The Language Producer works in a cross-cutting role across teams at UNICEF HQ to support localization, as part of UNICEF’s dynamic digital ecosystem. Included is strategic localization of content, management of page production, and review of translated texts for accuracy and editorial flow.

How can you make a difference? 

Scope of Work:

Web production

  • Make production updates to UNICEF’s global site in Chinese (unicef.org/zh) to ensure the content is up-to-date on the home page, institutional pages, and programme pages
  • Use data and research to report on possibilities for new platforms or use of current platforms to increase audience engagement
  • Work with Web editorial and design teams to build new web pages to UNICEF and DSS specifications. Pages may include new programme modules, campaign landing pages, blog posts, emergency appeals, and special features.
  • Coordinate website page production, including formatting text and assets containing text in Chinese. Perform final QA before publishing
  • Log and raise technical issues with the content management system (CMS) and related production technology with the technical team
  • Respond to inquiries made through unicef.org/zh
  • Coordinate production and coordination for special projects

Focal point for China country office

  • Coordinate with China country office, serving as a focal point for all Chinese content for social media, the global website and blog
  • Provide reports to China country office on upcoming campaigns and content, and coordinate translation and localization of social media packs and multimedia assets as required by the office.

Translation coordination

  • Liaise on the translation process with third-party vendor and ensure quality and uniformity of content delivery
  • Track word count and related expenses in a shared format.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • Fluency in Chinese, have a good management of English and excellent translation skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field such as communications, marketing, journalism or similar.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Five years of relevant experience in a media or digital media setting
  • Content management experience
  • Social media experience
  • Marketing experience in non-profit platforms
  • Project management experience in a multilingual environment
  • Ability to coordinate and manage Web content professionally
  • Proficient in Drupal CMS
  • Detail-oriented, creative, able to work efficiently under tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of technical implementation of Chinese language variant in digital ecosystem is desirable
  • Good understanding of world affairs, current events and development is highly desirable.

Language: Fluency in English and Chinese is required.

Assessment Criteria (applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria):

Each Proposal will be evaluated against a weight allocation of 80% for the technical proposals and 20% for the commercial proposal. The total maximum obtainable is 100 points. The minimum acceptable technical score is 49.

HEALTH INSURANCE

The Consultant is fully responsible for arranging, at their own expense, such life, health, and other forms of insurance covering the term of the Contract as he or she considers appropriate. The Consultant is not eligible to participate in the life or health insurance schemes available to UNICEF and United Nations staff members.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.

IMPORTANT – G4 Visa is only valid if the consultant will reside within the tri-state area during the duration of the assignment. It is illegal to apply and obtain a visa for consultants who do not intend to reside within the tri-state area during the duration of the consultancy assignment.

FEE

Requests for services under an individual contract requires that the consultant indicates their all- inclusive fees (including lump sum travel and subsistence costs, as applicable) for the services to be provided.

When submitting their bid, the consultant is also advised to take into consideration as part of their bid for the assignment the cost of health insurance and/or photographic, video-graphic equipment if such equipment is needed to complete the deliverables of the assignment.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
