Organizational Setting

The Department of Management (MT) provides a 'platform of services' that serves as a foundation for the successful delivery of the IAEA's scientific and technical programmes. Its mission statement is as follows\: "MT is a partner and a business enabler that champions change and efficiency, leveraging a common purpose". Thus, among other support activities, it assists a scientific manager in recruiting the right expert, helps a technical officer coordinate the purchase of radiation equipment, and ensures that all Board documents are translated and distributed on a timely basis to Member States.

 

One of the main functions assigned to the IAEA by its Statute is to foster the exchange of scientific and technical information and the dissemination of knowledge in the nuclear field among Member States.

To facilitate the effective exchange and dissemination of information relevant to the IAEA's work and mandate, the Division of Conference and Document Services (MTCD) coordinates and supports the implementation of these activities for its users and clients, both internal and external, by organizing meetings and conferences, issuing documents in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish, and editing, printing and distributing publications.

The MTCD Language Services Section (LSS) is responsible for coordinating, managing and delivering language services for the Agency. The Section promotes multilingualism and maintains language standards of the organization through editing and translation of PMO documents, incoming and outgoing Secretariat documents and correspondence, web articles and advocacy material, Agency publications and other content.

Main Purpose

Reporting to the Section Head, the Language Services Programme Officer ensures the efficient coordination of linguistic services provided to IAEA internal clients and Member States and manages projects related to enhancing the delivery of these services.

Role

The Language Services Programme Officer is\: (1) a coordinator, liaising among the document management team, the six language services [content processing] teams and the multilingual output production team, areas and between the production areas as well as with internal and external clients and stakeholders for the efficient and effective delivery of services; and (2) a project manager, leading projects related to enhancing Language Services and liaising with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

Functions / Key Results Expected

Support the Section Head in planning, organizing and evaluating the Section's work with the aim of continuously reviewing effectiveness and identifying efficiencies and priorities.

Recommend and implement improvements to the workflows and tools of Language Services, as well as any business process re-engineering required, in order to enhance the efficiency and consistency of Language Services, including managing major projects.

Facilitate the coordination of the Language Services teams in the Section for the efficient delivery of service.

Analyse and validate output and productivity statistics for Language Services, and any other ad hoc statistical reports as required.

Coordinate and validate the production of the Language Services financial reports, freelancer forecasting and administration reports, and Language Service roster updates.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

  • Advanced university degree in languages or in a relevant subject. A University degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience; of which a minimum of four years of experience in an international organization, public sector or non-profit organization, or equivalent.
  • Experience using and/or designing business analysis and reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with language services tools, including terminology software, and CAT-tools and AI software for language services.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $77326 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 46318, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks' annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.
