Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Planning in his role as lead of the UNRWA Crisis Coordination Structure, the incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks related to the 2023 humanitarian crisis in Gaza: 1. Provide substantive and organizational support to the Director of Planning / Lead of the Crisis Response Coordination Structure by drafting situation reports, talking points, background papers, humanitarian strategy papers and arranging schedules and internal and external meetings (including the development of agendas, briefing notes, presentations, meeting minutes and action points). 2. Track and follow-up on key action points / issues and manage potentially sensitive internal and external communications across the different elements of UNRWA’s response to the 2024 humanitarian crisis in Gaza. 3. Act as a technical level liaison with UNRWA Field Offices and HQ Departments and Divisions. 4. Liaise with other humanitarian agencies to monitor external humanitarian and emergency assistance programmes related to the 2024 humanitarian crisis in Gaza; provide advice and technical analysis of the latest findings and that lessons learned are incorporated into the UNRWA response, including in relation to cross-cutting considerations. 5. Ensure appropriate mechanisms to facilitate collaboration and the exchange of information, both in and outside of UNRWA. 6. Keep abreast of the latest developments in Gaza and the West Bank and support the Director to take follow up action. 7. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in political science, public policy, social science, international studies, public / business administration, economics or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Nature and extent of required relevant experience: At least five years of professional experience in the areas of coordination, programme management / support, planning, partnership development and/or research. At least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of citizenship is required. Experience in humanitarian reporting and coordination within the UN common system or other comparable international organization is a requirement. Experience in the Middle East is desirable. Languages
Excellent command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
