Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership committed to saving children's lives and protecting people's health by increasing equitable use of vaccines in lower-income countries. The Vaccine Alliance brings together implementing country and donor governments, the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, technical agencies, civil society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other private sector partners. Gavi uses innovative finance mechanisms, including co-financing by recipient countries, to secure sustainable funding and adequate supply of quality vaccines. Since 2000, Gavi has contributed to the immunisation of more than 1 billion children and the prevention of more than 17 million future deaths.
THE ROLE
Gavi’s strategy for the 2021-25 (‘Gavi 5.0’) period, updated for 2023-25 as ‘Gavi 5.1’, focuses on increasin equity of immunisation programmes by reaching marginalised children in the world’s poorest countries with the objective to save millions of lives. The strategy also includes a focus on an ambitious revitalisation of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine programme, the rollout of a first Malaria programme, support to COVID-19 vaccine programme and an evolution of Gavi’s role in Pandemic Prevention Preparedness and Response.
The Strategy Design and Delivery team supports the Alliance leadership and Board in designing Gavi’s next strategy ‘Gavi 6.0’ for 2026-2030 and in accelerating the roll-out of Gavi 5.1. More specifically, in 2024-2025, the Strategy Desing and Delivery team supports the design of Gavi 6.0 - expected to be finalised in June 2024 - and will lead the operationalisation of the new Strategy until its formal launch in January 2026. In parallel, in 2024-25, the Strategy Design and Delivery team also supports the delivery of critical programmatic priorities defined as ‘Must-Wins’ that are essential to achieve Gavi 5.1 objectives. These Must-Wins include (i) the acceleration of the Alliance work on restoring routine immunisation and its ‘zero-dose’ agenda following the disruption caused by the pandemic; (ii) the revitalisation of the HPV programme; and (iii) the roll out and scale up of the new Malaria programme.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

- What approach should the Secretariat take to structure and coordinate the operationalisation of Gavi 6.0 and reflect strategic shifts into Gavi’s policies, processes and guidelines?
- How should Gavi’s operating and partnership models evolve in Gavi 6.0?
- What should Gavi’s role be and how should its model evolve to best meet the specific needs of fragile and humanitarian settings?
- How can Gavi accelerate the successful execution of its ambitious plan to revitalise the HPV vaccination programme to reach 86 million girls by 2025?
- How can Gavi help countries restore routine immunisation after disruptions caused by the pandemic and sustainably reach zero-dose children with life-saving vaccines to reach its ambitious Gavi 5.1 targets?
- What approach for Gavi to accelerate the rollout and scale up of the first Malaria vaccines and meet the significant demand from countries?
