Background
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
The UN-Habitat Programme team in Ukraine has launched the implementation of UN-Habitat's mandate in response to the ongoing emergency situation, in collaboration with the Urban Lab. UN-Habitat’s country programme has a focus on implementation of projects at sub-regional and country level, mainly related to urban recovery in crisis and postcrisis contexts, Internally Displaced People (IDP), development of urban profiles to identify the immediate and long-term rehabilitation/recovery needs of the built environment, including damaged housing and public facilities and utilities, to inform strategic and actionable approaches to urban recovery, and support the fundraising activities for programme development.
UN-Habitat is now seeking to hire an Operations/Logistics Assistant (Driver) to assist in the provision of a broad programme support in the field of operations/ logistics for UN-Habitat Country Office in Ukraine.
This position is located at UN-Habitat in Ukraine, Kyiv, under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer and the overall guidance of the Head of the Country Programme. The Operations/Logistics Assistant (Driver) will work closely with UN-Habitat team in Ukraine.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent is expected to fulfill the following general duties and responsibilities:
- Assists the Programme Management Unit in providing its services for the UN-Habitat projects in Ukraine to ensure timely implementation;
- Operates the UN-Habitat Ukraine vehicles and ensures the maintenance and proper vehicle operations;
- Ensures transport of the designated persons during working hours, as instructed;
- Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the UN-Habitat vehicles, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs, and ensures that vehicles are kept clean;
- Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.;
- Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident;
- Makes regular deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the UN-Habitat Office and other offices and institutions, etc.;
- Assists in minor purchase of goods and services for UN Habitat Ukraine office;
- Operates photocopying, printing and binding equipment as required for office needs and workshops;
- Assists in preparing inventory checks and reports;
- Assists for logistical arrangements for workshops, events, meetings, etc.;
- Provides logistical and administrative support and performs any other functions and tasks which may be required by the nature of the project’s activities and as assigned by the Programme Management Officer/Head of the Country Programme.
Results Expected:
Carries out driving assignments safely and on time. Uses discretion, initiative and judgment in planning and scheduling routes. Performs a variety of functions with respect to management and movement of equipment, supplies and personnel to and from missions. Provides general office and administrative support.
Reporting requirements
The Operations/Logistics Assistant (Driver) will work under the overall guidance of the Head of the Country Programme and the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer.
Working location and travel
The assignment is expected to be conducted from the UN-Habitat office in Kyiv. The position will include travel to field locations required for site visits, technical missions and engagement with stakeholders and partners.

Required Skills and Experience
Education
- Completion of secondary education is required
- A valid driver’s license (B or C categories)
Experience
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in the field of work, and with a safe driving record, is required
- Experience in general office support and logistics is desirable
- Experience working for the UN or other international organizations is an advantage
- Knowledge of software packages MS Word, and Excel is an advantage
Language
- Fluency in Ukrainian and a working level of English are required
