Organizational Context

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, with a network of 191-member National Societies. The overall aim of the IFRC is “to inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by National Societies with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.”  The IFRC works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises.

The IFRC has five regional offices in Africa, Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa, Europe, and the Americas.  The IFRC also has country cluster delegation and country delegations throughout the world. Together, the Geneva Headquarters and the field structure (regional, cluster and country) comprise the IFRC Secretariat.

Job Purpose

The goal is to share the work load of driving from Amman to Syrian Borders and back for Syria Delegation and PNSs Staff. All other related jobs of transportation for accommodation and runs to Ministry of Interior and Foreign Affairs for visas support of respective staff. To help the organization in maintaining excellent working conditions by keeping our facilities safe and problem-free the job holder will be undertaking various transporting duties, maintenance and keeping fleet records.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Check on a daily basis that the vehicle parked at the IFRC office is properly equipped.  In particular, check that the vehicle contains a first aid kit, a list of emergency numbers.
  • Responsible for all maintenance related to IFRC vehicles.
  • Check on a daily basis that the vehicles parked at the Delegation office is properly maintained.  In particular, check the fuel and oil levels, the water levels in the radiator and batteries, the level of the brake fluid, the lights and indicators, the condition and tension of the fan belt and the tyre pressures and tyre tread (including spare wheel).
  • Report all vehicle defects and any missing items to IFRC Admin unit.
  • Check log books on a daily basis and ensure that recordings are kept up to date.
  • Monitoring the use of IFRC vehicles
  • Ensure that all vehicles parked at the Delegation office are cleaned (inside and outside) on a daily basis.
  • Participate actively in daily transport requests and tasks from Admin unit.
  • Assist in all other activities together with team colleagues as may be required.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (continued)

  • Perform any other duties as may assigned by Admin unit.
  • Visitor reception coming from the crossing borders and the airport.
  • Provide assistance to people in need
  • Ensure quality transportation support to IFRC office and programmes.
  • Abide by the security rules and regulations effective for the public general and for all members and employees of IFRC.
  • Follow vehicles maintenance and licensing.
  • Manage relations with transfer companies IFRC office dealing with.
  • Ensure good relations with JRCS fleet team.
  • Any other tasks assigned by your line manager

Education

  • High school certificate - Preferred.

Experience

  • One year of experience in Related Fields - Required.
  • Experience in working for Red Cross Red Crescent / NGOs preferred - Required.

Knowledge, Skills and Languages

  • Self-supporting in computers (Windows, spreadsheets, Word, etc) - Preferred.
  • Staff development capacity - Preferred.
  • Arabic - Required.
  • Fluently spoken and written English - Preferred.
