Overview of position

Under direct management and technical supervision of Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Unit UNICEF Central Region Field Office Kabul. The SBC Extender will be assigned to provide support on data collection/evidence generation, programme planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, reviews and reporting of SBC/AAP programme activities.

Role objectives

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist on programme data collection, evidence generation, programme planning, coordination, programme implementation, monitoring and reporting of SBC/AAP activities in 12 provinces of Central Region.

  • Facilitate and conduct capacity building trainings workshops and orientation related to SBC/AAP field projects’ staff including social workers/mobilizers and community structures at districts/provinces level.

  • Conduct community engagement sessions on social and behaviour change programmatic focus areas such as Health, Nutrition, WASH, Education, Child Protection and Emergency Response.

  • Participate in provincial sectoral programme coordination meetings related to Health, Nutrition, WASH, Education, Child Protection and Emergency Response.

  • Support field level emergency preparedness and response activities, perform monitoring visits to project sites using standardized monitoring form/checklist. Provide monitoring support to UNICEF programme related media campaigns.

  • Provide technical support on data collection, data analysis and reporting related to SBC/AAP activities at district/province level. As per the established format prepare and submit SBC/AAP programme progress report on monthly basis.

  • Engage community structures/key influencers and communities in collecting/responding to community feedback. Provide information about availability and utilization of UNICEF supported programme services to people/communities.

  • Identify best success stories of SBC interventions, provide support to the distribution of programme focus IEC and BCC materials and emergency response supplies.

  • Liaise with (INGOs/NGOs) programme partners and provincial programme stakeholders on SBC and AAP interventions.

  • Provide technical support to CEFCs, conduct/facilitate the AAP/CFM interventions and social listening activities, by providing information about availability and utilization of services to communities. Inform communities about the available mechanism to provide their feedback on UNICEF supported services.

  • Conduct frequent programme field site visits to monitor SBC integrated project activities and ensure smooth implementation of the SBC/AAP activities based on annual workplan.

Required Education Level: University degree in one of the following fields is required:

  • Public Health, Social Science, Psychology, Communication, Education, or another relevant field. 

Minimum professional work experience required:

  • At least 2 to 5 years of professional work experience in the field of community development and social work.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency (written and spoken) Pashto, Dari and English.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of Computer Literacy/Microsoft Office 365/Office Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other software programs)

  • Ability to speak publicly, knowledge and skills of documenting activities (writing short articles/success stories, project activity reports and taking programmatic pictures).

  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a result-oriented manner under demanding working conditions, often with short deadlines.
