Mission and objectives
The Economic Commission for Western Asia (ECWA) was established on 9 August 1973 pursuant to Economic and Social Council’s resolution 1818 (LV). Its purpose was to stimulate economic activity in member countries, strengthen cooperation between them promote development.
ESCWA's objectives are to support economic and social development in member countries, to promote interaction and cooperation between member countries, to encourage the exchange of experience, best practice and lessons learned, to achieve regional integration and ensure interaction between Western Asia and other regions, and to raise global awareness of the circumstances and needs of member countries.
ESCWA provides a framework for the formulation and harmonization of sectoral policies for member countries, a platform for congress and coordination, a home for expertise and knowledge, and an information observatory.
ESCWA activities are coordinated with the divisions and main offices of the Headquarters of the United Nations, specialized agencies, and international and regional organizations, including the League of Arab States and its subsidiary bodies, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Context
The UN Volunteer should support the delivery of the below outputs:
• Finalizing the 10th National Development Plan (NDP) Assessment: Assisting in the final revisions and ensuring the timely completion of the mid-term assessment for the 10th NDP.
• Supporting the Upcoming XB Project with Oman: Contributing to the deliverables of the upcoming market study on the building sector in Oman, including research, data analysis, and support in drafting project outputs.
• Assisting in Research Deliverables for the Team: Support the development of research and background papers, with a particular focus on deliverables related to planning and competition projects.
• Finalizing the 10th National Development Plan (NDP) Assessment: Assisting in the final revisions and ensuring the timely completion of the mid-term assessment for the 10th NDP.
• Supporting the Upcoming XB Project with Oman: Contributing to the deliverables of the upcoming market study on the building sector in Oman, including research, data analysis, and support in drafting project outputs.
• Assisting in Research Deliverables for the Team: Support the development of research and background papers, with a particular focus on deliverables related to planning and competition projects.
Task description
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Economics Affairs Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will:
• Conduct in-depth research and analysis to support ongoing and planned XB projects, including the mid-term review of the 10th National Development Plan (NDP) and the upcoming market study for the building sector in Oman.
• Collect, analyze, and compile data using various tools and software; manage and update databases to ensure data integrity; provide research assistance by consolidating information from diverse sources; and contribute to documentation through abstracts, summaries, and content for publications.
• Participate in meetings, share project updates, and incorporate feedback to ensure efficient project execution.
• Facilitate effective communication and collaboration with ESCWA departments, particularly CSS, to align outputs with organizational goals.
• Assist in preparing presentations and charts related to the XB projects and other team activities.
• Assist in evaluating and verifying the accuracy, clarity, and validity of data sets and information.
• Maintain and update an organized body of electronic reference files to enable quick access to critical information.
• Perform additional tasks and ad hoc assignments as requested by the supervisor.
