Mission and objectives

Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society. IOM is part of the United Nations system, as a related organization.

IOM supports migrants across the world, developing effective responses to the shifting dynamics of migration and, as such, is a key source of advice on migration policy and practice. The organization works in emergency situations, developing the resilience of all people on the move, and particularly those in situations of vulnerability, as well as building capacity within governments to manage all forms and impacts of mobility.

The Organization is guided by the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, including upholding human rights for all. Respect for the rights, dignity and well-being of migrants remains paramount.

Context

EU-funded “Supporting Türkiye’s Efforts for Efficient Migration Management Project” aims to contribute towards progress on alignment with EU acquis and improve Türkiye's institutional capacity as regards Chapter 24. The project is implemented by IOM and the main beneficiary of the project is Ministry of Interior, Presidency of Migration Management (PMM).

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Associate under IBG Unit, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for supporting and facilitating the achievement of the project's objectives and outcomes, ensuring the successful daily implementation of project activities. This includes providing direct assistance to the relevant departments of the beneficiary institution, managing logistical and technical arrangements, and ensuring effective follow-up on all related tasks.

In this context, the incumbent will be based in beneficiary institution (PMM)’s main premises as IOM personnel and will undertake the assigned tasks and responsibilities in close communication with PMM’s relevant departments.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of Senior Programme Associate in IOM, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Use the required software for data monitoring, visualization, and statistical analysis.
• Provide technical support to relevant department in PMM in areas such as Power BI, R, data visualization, and statistical analysis.
• Identify data analysis and measurement methods and work to make data obtained from these measurements more comprehensible.
• Actively participate in the processes of data collection, cleaning, integration, pattern analysis, reporting, and presentation.
• Analyse large datasets and uncover trends.
• Perform duties and responsibilities under the supervision of IOM and relevant department of PMM, and in line with the requirements of the department.
• Submit a report at the end of the contract period to PMM and IOM, outlining lessons learned and additional needs identified during the assignment at the relevant department.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

- Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day, 5th of December).
- Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.
- Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities (for instance at https://vra.unv.org),
- Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
- Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers.
- Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
