Duties and Responsibilities

The Fire Safety Assistant will be based in Bentiu and under the direct supervision of Air Operations OIC in Bentiu, and supporting UNMISS Aviation operations by providing firefighting and rescue services in accordance with established rules and regulations. The fire Safety Assistant will be responsible for; • Installation, inspection, and maintenance of UNMISS fire-fighting equipment and materials in the airfield. • Ensuring integrity of all fire-fighting equipment and materials at the airfield. • Extinguishing and suppressing all fires that may break out at or in the vicinity of the airfield by using UNMISS firefighting equipment. • Responding to all aircraft emergencies. • Driving and operate emergency vehicles safely and efficiently, responding to calls promptly; maintain the firefighting vehicles, ensuring they are in optimal condition. • Assisting in conduction of the fire investigation to establish causes of fire and make appropriate preventive recommendations for future use. • Carrying out surveys at airfields/helipads as per recommendation of UNMISS Aviation Fire Marshal. • Keeping records of all fire-fighting equipment and materials at the airfield/ helipads and advise UNMISS Aviation Fire Marshal on improvement, replenishment and replacement of fire-fighting equipment, materials and chemicals whenever required. • Carrying out any other duties as directed by Air Operations Officer of the Air Region. • Driving and operate fire fighting vehicles to maintain local standby for all aircraft operations including engine start up, re-fueling/de-fueling, landings and departures, Ground engine runs. • Driving Fire fighting vehicles to pre-determined positions and maintain active stand by for VIP movements, and during adverse weather conditions.

Qualifications/special skills

Education: High school diploma or certificate is required. Work Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the operation of heavy-duty trucks, general knowledge of procedures and regulations for aero fire-fighting operations, experience in the operations of aero fire-fighting equipment and VHF radio communication is required. License: Valid driving permit for heavy duty vehicles is required. Training: Basic training in rescue and aero- rescue and firefighting services is required.
