Job Purpose

Under the supervision of Scientist II, the researcher will assist in conducting rice genome-editing studies to validate the function of candidate genes orchestrating the assembly of the rice microbiome for improved disease resistance and provide assistance in high iron and zinc rice research activities.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Planning experiments in conducting rice genome-editing studies to validate the function of candidate genes orchestrating the assembly of the rice microbiome for improved disease resistance and assist in high iron and zinc rice research activities
  • Conduct and document experiments while ensuring accuracy and reliability
  • Gather, organize, and structure data systematically for analysis
  • Process and interpret data to identify trends and generate insights
  • Preparing materials, and equipment and supervising manpower support as needed in the experiments
  • Contributing to the verification and application of research protocols/methods/techniques that would aid in the successful execution of the experiment/activity
  • Contribute to the presentation of reports and publications of project results.
  • Collaborate with lRRl's Plant Pathology and Host Plant Resistance Group members, in the execution of disease resistance evaluation of rice events
  • Collaborate with IRRI’s Healthier Rice team members
  • Coordinate with IRRI’s Seed Health Unit and IRRI Tech Transfer for sending the materials to research partner in the US
  • Assist the conduct of high iron and zinc rice research activities
  • Interpret data and contribute to the SOP, protocol, and manuscript writing
  • Prepare and submit updated research outputs to the Scientist II in a timely manner
  • Proactively maintain a database or spreadsheet of experiments
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Biotechnology or Biology with a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in Molecular Biology
