Job Purpose

Under the supervision of the Assistant Scientist, the Researcher is expected to provide assistance in conducting field trials involving transgenic and gene-edited materials, with supplementary laboratory work. The Researcher will plan and implement routine experiments, assist in supervising the implementation of research studies, collect and analyze research data, contribute to the preparation of reports, publications, and presentations, and support the training of scholars and trainees as required and oversee the work of Research Technicians. 

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement routine experiments focused on transgenic and gene-edited materials primarily involved in field trials, with additional laboratory work under the “Developing C4 intermediates in rice through genome editing Project”
  • Assist in supervising the conduct of field trials, and other research studies with additional work performed in the laboratory
  • Collect, collate, and analyze research data
  • Prepare supplies and equipment as needed in the experiments
  • Confirm molecular characterization of imported and exported transgenic and gene-edited materials
  • Contribute to the verification and application of research protocols/methods/techniques that would aid in the successful execution of the experiment/activity
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, publications, and presentations
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners in the implementation of field trials and other related studies
  • Oversee the work of Research Technicians
  • Provide feedback on the performance of the Research Technician to the immediate supervisor
  • Support the training of scholars and other stakeholders
  • Prepare and submit updated and accurate research outputs in a timely manner
  • Interpret data and contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, and manuscripts
  • Maintain database for optimal storage and retrieval of information
  • Act as a resource person for training courses and visitors
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Biotechnology or in Biology
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in Molecular Biology
