PROFILE
Are you passionate about climate adaptation and policy analysis? GCA is looking for a motivated Intern to join our team and contribute to our mission of advancing climate resilience worldwide. Under the supervision of the Project Leads and Infrastructure Lead, your work focuses on the nexus of nature-based interventions for water infrastructure resilience, food, and socioeconomic benefits of adaptation. Your outputs will be used to inform identification and integration of large-scale NBS solutions for climate adaptation/resilience, contributing to climate-informed integrated water-management practices for communities ‘ resilience. Key tasks include:
• Identify essential Integrated Water Management (IWM) principles relevant to flood protection.
• Differentiate the impact of flooding on various dike user groups, including small-scale farmers, large-scale farmers, rural communities, and urban communities.
• Explore community-led global initiatives that adopt an Integrated Water Management approach to dike management for diverse user groups and discuss how to translate to national and regional practices.
• Conduct literature review on global best practices on WEF nexus approach on hydropower projects, including case studies where hydropower development has successfully integrated WEF principles and NbS for climate resilience.
• Assess interdependence between water, energy and food production and their potential vulnerabilities to climate change.
• Recommend community-driven engagement strategies to better understand local adaptation needs and capacities, and enhance local participation in NbS implementation.
• Collaborate across GCA programs, including Water and Urban, and Locally-Led Adaptation teams, and engage with key stakeholders to gather insights and validate findings,
• Develop a final report and presentation summarizing key findings and recommendations
