About this position

The Energy Division (ENE) is responsible for conceptualizing, preparing, supporting execution, and supervises the IDB’s operations related to energy. Its functions include preparing the Bank sector policies, strategies, operational guidelines and programs in energy; conducting relevant research and analytical work, best practices, and case studies in the sector; and provides specialized sectoral technical support to activities and operations in borrowing member countries.

The Knowledge Team of the Energy Division leads the identification and development of groundbreaking analytical work and research products, using robust theoretical and empirical tools to inform effective policy design and decision-making in the sector. The consultant will work under the supervision of the ENE Knowledge Coordinator and will provide comprehensive support to the ENE Division Chief.

We are looking for a communicative, collaborative, and detail-oriented energy analyst and content creator. In this role, you will draft policy briefs and presentations, collect and analyze data, develop and maintain databases and analytical tools, and contribute to policy notes, talking points, presentations and external content to disseminate the work done by the Energy Division. Your work will ensure the delivery of high-quality outputs that inform impactful decision-making in the energy sector.

What you’ll do

  • Create data-driven documents and visualizations, such as charts, presentations, and interactive material, to enhance the communication of complex information to decision-makers.
  • Assist in preparing technical and non-technical speeches and keynote addresses for the ENE Division Chief, tailored to various audiences such as policymakers, stakeholders, and international forums.
  • Develop short articles, blogs, or op-eds showcasing the organization’s insights on energy issues, in alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Track and summarize emerging trends, technologies, and policies in the energy sector, providing regular updates to inform strategic discussions.
  • Develop talking points and materials to address critical or time-sensitive issues, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Draft content for the ENE’s social media presence, highlighting key initiatives, achievements, and insights.
  • Develop and maintain a repository of presentations, briefs, and other communication materials for the Division’s use, organized for quick access and reuse.
  • Assist the ENE Division Chief with external relations and communications related activities in coordination with the IDB communications team.

What you'll need

  • Education: master’s degree in economics, or Public Policy, Environmental Science, International Relations (with strong quantitative background), or a related field in an accredited university.   
  • Experience: At least five years of experience in energy analysis, content creation, speechwriting and copywriting on technical topics.   
  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.
  • Skills: Expertise in creating visually appealing and impactful presentations (e.g., PowerPoint and data visualization.), ability to extract insights from complex datasets and present them in a clear, concise manner.

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.  
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

  • Type of contract: International Consultant Full-Time.
  • Length of contract: 12 months, with a possibility of renewal for up to 24 additional months (for a total of 36 months), based on good performance.
  • Work Location: On site. Washington D.C.
