The Disarmament, Demobilization & Reintegration (DDR) program for Ethiopia was initiated as a crucial step towards implementing the peace agreement signed between the government of Ethiopia & the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) on the 2nd November 2022 in South Africa.
For the implementation of DDR in Ethiopia, the National Rehabilitation Commission (NRC) was established with the council of minister regulation number 525 / 2022 & with amended regulation number 541 / 2023 of the federal democratic republic of Ethiopia. The core mission of the commission is the stabilization of the society & recovery of the economy for sustainable peace & enhancing human security through designing, planning & implementing demobilization & sustainable reintegration of more than 370 thousand former combatants into civilian life across seven regions of Ethiopia.
Under the overall direction of the Logistics Senior Officer, the Logistics Officer is responsible for the implementation of logistical operations for DDR programs, focusing on the management of supplies, transportation & day to day logistical activities to ensure smooth program execution.
Assist in the planning & execution of logistical operations for DDR activities, including transportation & supply chain management.
Coordinate the daily logistical needs of the program, ensuring timely access to resources.
Maintain accurate records of inventory, ensuring that supplies & equipment are available as needed.
Conduct regular inventory checks & manage stock levels effectively.
Organize & oversee transportation logistics for the movement of ex combatants & materials during demobilization.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols & regulations during transportation.
Support the procurement process by identifying suppliers, obtaining quotes & assisting in the purchase of necessary goods.
Ensure that all procurement activities are conducted in accordance with organizational policies & maintain accurate documentation related to logistics operations, including invoices, delivery notes & procurement records.
Prepare reports on logistical activities & contribute to the overall program reporting.
Identify logistical challenges & assist in developing solutions to address them.
Work collaboratively with the Logistics Advisor to improve logistics processes.
Work closely with other program staff & departments to ensure logistical needs are met effectively & build relationships with local suppliers & transport providers to facilitate smooth operations.
Assist in training local staff & partners in logistics management & best practices.
This role works under the overall direction of the Logistics Senior Officer.
Key competenciesGraduate degree in logistics, supply chain management or a related field.
At least 6 years (with a high school diploma) or 3 years (with a bachelor’s degree) of professional experience with degree in logistics, supply chain management or a related field.
Experience in logistics coordination or supply chain management, ideally in a humanitarian or post conflict context.
Familiarity with DDR processes & related operational frameworks is advantageous.
Excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in logistics software & Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to use technology & software to develop & deliver training content.
Ability to work in a multicultural & diverse environment.
Fluency in English & Amharic is required.
This role has no team management responsibility.
