Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environment authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP's Industry and Economy Division addresses environmental issues at global and regional levels, provides leadership and encourages partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing and enabling nations and people to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations. The Industry and Economy Division also works with many partners, including Member States, to advance the organization's global goals as well as national efforts to transition to a low-carbon, green economy. Within the Industry and Economy Division, the Resources and Markets Branch is focused on resource efficiency, inclusive green economy, and circularity. The Branch leads work central to UNEP's Resource Efficiency subprogramme and to the global sustainable consumption and production agenda - delivering scientific, credible, innovative solutions to make sustainability central in government policy frameworks, business direction-making and in peoples’ lives. The Branch partners with leaders in society, markets and governments to “walk the talk” of sustainability - making peoples' life better while ensuring that natural resources are managed and used in a more efficient way through policy advice, awareness raising, capacity strengthening and advocacy. Alongside the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) in February 2024, governments recognised the urgent need to enhance policy efforts to address the adverse effects of the textile value chain. To do so, governments called for a global policy dialogue on textiles to foster environmental sustainability and circularity throughout the value chain, asking UNEP to facilitate the dialogue moving forward. The dialogue will play a key role in fostering collaboration among countries and building policy coherence across the textile value chain, including through the exchange of information, best practices, and ultimately aims to trigger political commitments to transform the current textile policy frameworks at global level. UNEP is organizing a series of podcast episodes as a central component to the sharing platform in support of the global textile policy dialogue. The goal is to amplify on-going national political efforts to mitigate the negative impacts of the textile value chain on biodiversity, climate, pollution, as well as socio-economic impacts such as health and workers’ rights. The podcast will accordingly be positioned as a piece of thought leadership and public advocacy for global textile policy. It will feature high level speakers at ministerial level. The aim of the podcast producer is to lead the production of the six episodes. Specific tasks and responsibilities The consultant will oversee the end-to-end production of the podcast series (6 episodes, ensuring alignment with UNEP’s communication standards. Pre-production: • Prepare a guidance document highlighting technical requirements for the interviewees and interviewer (e.g., recommend quality microphones for remote recording, advise interviewer and interviewee to secure stable internet connections, and find quiet environments). • Identify and provide access to ideal recording platform for all participants to use to ensure high quality audio is captured. • Develop and record an intro and outro, including a voiceover and music, for the podcast series in partnership with UNEP textiles team members • Participate in the preparatory calls with UNEP, the interviewer and the interviewees, in order to brief them on the technical requirements and get familiar with the topic of the podcast. Recording: • Facilitate virtual recording sessions, ensuring high-quality audio capture. • Provide real-time support to troubleshoot any technical issues during the recording process. • Maintain professional recording standards, including optimizing audio levels and reducing background noise. Post-production: • Edit the interview recordings to ensure clarity, coherence, and flow: - Remove unnecessary pauses, background noise, and interruptions. - Edit certain sections of the recordings according to timecodes prepared by the UNEP textiles team, where necessary - Enhance audio quality with professional editing tools to meet industry standards. - Add UNEP branding elements, such as intro/outro music, sound effects, or voiceovers, if required. • Review the edited podcasts in collaboration with UNEP, incorporating feedback through one initial review and extra two review rounds. • Prepare accurate transcripts for each episode Dissemination: • Work with the UNEP multimedia team to upload the podcast episodes to major platforms, such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and YouTube.
