Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Environment Programme hosts the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO). IMEO is a data-driven, action-focused UNEP initiative that takes an innovative approach to address the methane emissions problem by collecting, integrating, and reconciling data from different sources. IMEO created a global public dataset of empirically verified methane emissions, with an initial focus on fossil fuel sources and interconnects data with actions on research, reporting, and capacity-building. This will catalyse deep reductions in human-made methane emissions and serve the rapidly growing ecosystem of governments, companies, investors, researchers, NGOs and other entities engaging in this crucial climate challenge. An engagement lead is needed to engage target stakeholders around the theme of methane mitigation with the following objectives: 1. Deepen engagement of target stakeholders across IMEO through strategic, targeted and timely interactions, to increase agency and accelerate progress towards mitigating methane emissions with a focus on the oil & gas sector. 2. Build trust among member and partner stakeholders deepening the community of practice to increase experience sharing, collaboration to progress reporting and joint venture engagement, and transparency of asset level data. 3. Grow impact, drive greater public support for IMEO by key stakeholders
