Functional Responsibilities

Functions / Key Results Expected

Under the guidance and supervision of the Programme Management Officer in Aleppo, Syria, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services for the transport of authorized personnel. He/she will also attend the irregular shifts as requested by the supervisor.  He/She has a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

1) Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services by:

 (a) driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel, for meetings and workshops, field visits, and delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items; and 

(b) support the transportation of the authorized staff and the official personnel, and visitors at the airport, visa, and customs formalities when required. 

2) Full compliance with the implementation of all security measures for the passengers and the vehicle during all the trips, regardless of the location, destination, and distance of travel. 

3) Maintain the vehicle logbook properly filled out with fleet information as well as invoices for fuel and maintenance of the vehicle, and make sure it is signed by the authorizing officer. 

4) Ensures cost-savings through proper use of the vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to the preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

5) Report immediately to the direct supervisor of any accidents and mechanical failures occurring during a trip in or outside the city. 

6) Use radio communication and carry out tasks as directed by the supervisor and always remain vigilant and professional. 

7) Remain flexible about travelling outside of the city and working additional hours if required. 

8) Keep records of vehicle daily mileage trips, gas consumption, oil changes, etc. 



Impact of Results

The driver's employment should facilitate the team's work, ensure timely arrival at work sites, and achieve better project management and implementation. 

Support and facilitate the field supervision and timely submission of periodic reports. 

It also ensures that the team attends events and meetings inside and outside the city. 

It should also ease the conducting of evaluation work within Aleppo and other cities, as well as in rural locations and areas where UN-Habitat is involved. 

This will enhance the team's performance, decrease task completion time, ensure quality in project implementation and delivery schedules, and streamline logistical and technical matters.


Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:  

Completion of secondary school or equivalent; drivers training with a valid driver’s license is must.

Experience:

A minimum of 2 years’ work experience as a driver is required.

Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs is required.

Experience of driving in the field in challenging terrain is desirable.

Work experience as a driver within the UN system or similar international organization is an asset.

Experience in driving Armored vehicles and C1 driving license Category is highly desirable.

Experience in computer/office productivity software will be an asset.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in Arabic (both oral and written) is required. 

Moderate spoken English is required. Written English, sufficient to complete the vehicle log, is required.
