Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Peacebuilding Officer. 

 

About the job 

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an international non-governmental organization, which promotes and supports solutions to the problems faced by vulnerable people affected by conflict and instability all over the world. The Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (HDP) Sector is a specialized unit within DRC that focuses on community safety, peacebuilding, conflict prevention and mine action.  

This position is within the Community Safety team, which strives to identify safety and peacebuilding needs from the perspective of those living in areas with safety risks and communal tension, and to help them find non-violent solutions. These include dialogue facilitation between and within communities, establishing spaces for dialogue, awareness raising campaigns on the risks of weapons to communities, community trainings on conflict management and community focused security sector reform.  

We work through a participatory approach where programming specifically seeks to engage communities as agents of change in addressing root causes of conflict and local safety and security challenges.   

DRC is looking for at least one Community Safety Officer(s) for its Tripoli team. The future team members should be excited by meeting and working with local communities across Tripoli and potentially Tripolitania and interested in developing and expanding the organization’s peacebuilding and conflict prevention work. 
 
Your main duties and responsibilities will be: 

Programming 

  • Planning of daily, weekly and monthly implementation of project activities with the Manager - directly participate in day-to-day implementation of project activities including outreach to communities, meetings with community leaders and facilitating of dialogue sessions, planning of training sessions, actor mapping sessions, key informant interviews and facilitation – management of project activities (on and offline) 

  • Contribute to ongoing conflict analysis and provide feedback to the Manager on changes in local conflict dynamics and possible impact on the programming 

  • Liaise, communicate and develop and maintain relationships with local stakeholders, including community leaders, and activity participants.  

  • Mobilize key target groups for DRC activities i.e., youth, civil society, community leaders, municipal representatives, women, vulnerable groups, minorities, migrants, IDPs, PWDs among others.   

  • Contribute to the design and distribution planning for awareness raising campaigns  

  

Operations 

  • Plan and arrange logistics (procurements with the supply chain team)) in preparation of and during community sessions and project activities - events in coordination with the Manager and support staff 

  • Procurement of services for community initiatives and support the procurement of awareness raising campaigns with support staff 

  • Adhere to safety (local safety rules), logistics/procurement, HR and DRC/DDG Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) 

  • Complete site visits related to any quotation gathering, assessing venue options and meeting with beneficiaries  

  • Follow Code of Conduct throughout project to ensure that it is always upheld 

  

Reporting and Learning 

  • Contribute to activities being conducted in accordance with the monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning plan, in coordination with the Monitoring and Evaluations Officer 

  • Contribute to regular reporting and documentation of project activities 

  • Promote a culture of learning with the team and actively share challenges and lessons learned 

  • Attend team meetings  

  • KIIs reporting: Completion of reports and/or transcripts per KII and uploaded on SharePoint.  

  • Partake in internal team trainings  

  • Updating activity tracker as frequently needed 

  • Update - report to Project manager as frequently as requested regarding tasks and activities.   

  • The completion of tasks according to the set schedule  

  • Communicate with team members and beneficiaries via calls, messages, apps such as WhatsApp and emails in a timely fashion (promptly) on a daily, by daily and weekly basis. 

 

About you 

  • To be successful in this role, we expect you to have a minimum of 3 years of experience working with non-governmental organizations. Moreover, we also expect the following:

  • Extensive demonstrated experience working with communities and successful liaison with community focal points and authorities 

  • Preference for previous experience working on conflict prevention/social cohesion 

  • Solid analytical skills 

  • Solid organizational skills 

  • Solid reporting skills 

  • Solid time and task management skills  

  • High degree of computer literacy 

  • Ability to work under pressure with flexibility 

  • Highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously (self – dependency) 

  • Well-connected and respected in the local community 

  • A university degree in social science, political science, related field or relevant experience 

  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English and Arabic
