Job Purpose

The Solutions Enablement (SE) team within the BR Digital Solutions (DS) organization provides services to enable cost-effective, innovative, and efficient delivery and operations of solutions that enhance efficiency in research data management, knowledge sharing, and decision-making. It provides software platform engineering, software quality engineering, and database engineering capabilities supporting DS’ flagship solution, the Enterprise Breeding System (EBS), and an expanded portfolio that includes new cloud and infrastructure services.

The  Solutions Delivery Specialist  provides the necessary technical expertise to design, implement, test, execute, monitor, and improve tools and processes enabling a secure, efficient, timely, and reliable solutions delivery pipeline.This role also works closely with the Innovation Delivery team to help architect innovative solutions designed to help optimize costs, performance, and security. Lastly, they will work with internal teams to plan and conduct capacity-building initiatives on software engineering, cloud engineering, and cutting-edge technologies.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, test, execute, monitor, and maintain tools and processes enabling product development teams to deliver solutions to customers in a secure, efficient, timely, and reliable manner. 
  • Help improve software quality, security, and data resilience through automation. 
  • Help maintain cloud infrastructure being utilized in solutions delivery processes and production workloads to ensure acceptable levels of availability. 
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by conducting R&D with the objective of identifying and integrating industry best practices within the project. 
  • Engage with DS teams to ensure that tools and processes are utilized as agreed-upon, provide necessary support and capacity-building initiatives, and keep track of new requirements for planning purposes.
  • Engage with stakeholders to capture and define requirements for high-impact solutions and services that are part of the DS portfolio.
  • Help ensure that timely customer support is provided through communication, triaging, and resolution of reported issues by working with the Global User Support team.
  • Evaluate existing tools and processes to determine required improvements and deliver solutions in a timely manner.
  • Conduct R&D on innovative tools and processes designed to enhance solution delivery.
  • Help build a center of excellence for cloud infrastructure, software delivery, and application security by participating in capacity-building initiatives for people, process, and technology to enable software engineering teams to release high-quality, secure, and resilient solutions.
  • Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor from time to time
Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent), with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience for bachelor’s degree holders, or at least 1 year for master’s degree holders.

Skills Required

Mandatory

  • Practical experience in software engineering using modern programming languages (e.g, PHP, Node.js, Python)
  • Practical experience in the use of relational database management systems (e.g, PostgreSQL);
  • Solid experience in Agile project management (e.g, Scrum)
  • Practical experience working with cloud providers (e.g, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a plus 
  • Practical experience in infrastructure-as-code (e.g, Terraform), CI/CD tools (e.g, Atlassian Bamboo), and database migration tools (e.g, Liquibase); and 
  • Ability to communicate well with stakeholders, is detail-oriented, and has strong problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Knowledgeable in plant breeding software applications
