Mission and objectives

UNDP supports strategic capacity development initiatives to promote inclusive growth and sustainable human development. Together with national, regional and local authorities, civil societies, private sector, UNDP strives to support Ukraine in its efforts to eliminate poverty, develop people’s capacity, achieve equitable results, sustain the environment, and advance democratic governance. UNDP is in line with 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to achieve national strategic capacity development.

Context

The Tech Volunteers for Resilience (Tech4R) programme, co-led by the UNDP Istanbul International Centre for Private Sector in Development (ICPSD) and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, mobilizes skilled digital volunteers to co-create open-source solutions that enhance inclusion, resilience, and recovery.

In collaboration with UNDP Ukraine and the All-Ukrainian Youth Centre, Tech4R supports the VidNOVA:UA Programme — a national initiative that engages youth across Ukraine in rebuilding their communities through interregional exchanges. The initiative’s Digital Map of Youth Exchanges (VidNOVA:UA) visualizes these projects through an open-source web platform, highlighting the reach and impact of youth-led recovery efforts.

Digital Solutions Volunteers will contribute to the enhancement and sustainability of this platform through technical, design, data, and documentation support. The multidisciplinary volunteer team will ensure that the platform is accessible, accurate, and user-friendly — serving as a digital tool that amplifies community-led development across Ukraine.

Task description

Together with the team and with the support of the ICPSD the Digital Solutions Volunteer will be expected to:

- Develop and optimize components of the web-based map using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or low-code tools.
- Integrate and validate datasets through APIs or other data pipelines (e.g., Google Sheets, OpenSheet API).
- Process, clean, and visualize geographic and tabular data using open-source tools (e.g., Leaflet, QGIS).
- Design and test responsive, accessible user interfaces that follow universal design principles.
- Conduct quality assurance and performance testing to ensure reliability across devices.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, guides, and update procedures.
- Support communication of the project’s impact through structured and visually clear outputs.
- Collaborate within an agile, cross-functional team to deliver a unified, high-quality digital solution.
