Duties and Responsibilities
The internship position is located in the Front Office, Office of the Director-General, United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). The selected intern is expected to start on 5 January 2026, for a period from 3 to 6 months. All UNOG internships are UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week Under the overall supervision of the Special Assistant to the Director-General the incumbent will perform the following duties: • Research and propose content for the Director-General’s account on X, as well as other forms of outreach for the Director-General’s pages on the UNOG website and on iSeek (intranet). • Assist in the preparation and review of official mission files for the Director-General. • Conduct background research and assist in drafting talking points, speeches, background documents, official correspondence, as well as other communications and policy documents in both English and French. • Prepare the Director-General’s daily provisional programme and the weekly programme for the drivers. • Provide logistical support for the Director-General’s visitors, including requesting grounds passes and accompanying visitors to ensure their smooth arrival and departure. • Support the management of secure badge-controlled access to the ODG area, ensuring the access list is regularly updated. • Receive and connect phone calls, ensuring clear communication and timely follow-up with relevant staff when needed. • Provide hospitality support for the Director-General and other high-level guests. • Prepare gifts for the Director-General’s high-level visitors, including UNOG publications and items promoting the work of the United Nations. • Carry out ad hoc tasks as requested by the Special Assistant or other Front Office staff and support other Sections within the Office of the Director-General as needed.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, and MS Teams. Ability to draft communication materials is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English and in French (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme.
