Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Peacebuilding Officer for our operations in Assosa, Benishangul Gumuz.

Overall purpose of the role

The Peace Building Officer will be responsible for various activities related to conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and community engagement aimed at promoting peace, reconciliation, and conflict resolution in Ura refugee settlement. The role holder will closely work with stakeholders at various level (regional, woreda, kebele, and local level) including community leaders, and project partners to facilitate dialogue, build relationships, and create sustainable peace building strategies. He / she will be also responsible for organizing workshops and peace dialogues at woreda and local level, monitoring progress, and monitoring impact to contribute for positive social change.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Establish and strengthen Women for Peace, Youth for Peace, and Peace Committees to promote inclusive community peace initiatives.
  • Provide capacity-building trainings on Protection, Early Warning Systems, Gender-Sensitive Conflict Management, Conflict Sensitivity, ADR, Leadership, and Advocacy.
  • Facilitate gender-sensitive community dialogues and forums to promote reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.
  • Support women and youth-led cultural, sports, and storytelling activities that foster healing, trust, and social cohesion together with the protection team.
  • Organize International Peace Day and other awareness campaigns promoting peace and inclusion.
  • Conduct conflict analysis and strengthen early warning and response mechanisms within communities.
  • Engage community leaders, religious figures, elders, and youth to ensure coordinated and sustainable peace efforts.
  • Monitor and report on peacebuilding activities, ensuring gender and protection principles are mainstreamed throughout

 

Experience and technical competencies:

  • BSc or MSC degree in Peace Studies, Law, Conflict Management, Social Studies, or related fields. 
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in conflict and peacebuilding which at least for 2 years in an NGO setting.  
  • Experience in project management, budget administration, and donor reporting. 
  • Strong knowledge and experience of working in conflict-prone and insecure areas. 
  • Strong coordination, representation, and interpersonal skills, along with basic computer literacy

 

 EDUCATION: (include certificates, licenses, etc.)

  • BSc or MSC degree in Peace Studies, Law, Conflict Management, Social Studies, or related fields.   

LANGUAGE: (indicate Fluency level)

  • Full Proficiency in English and Local language is desirable.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National employees
