Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.
DRC is currently looking for a Safety Assistant in Slovyansk.
About the job:
Safety Assistant will provide technical support to the safety team, field office and program teams on all DRC safety policies, procedure and planning standards. Safety Assistant will report directly to Base Manager. Safety Assistant will maintain relevant safety documentation, data, and records (staff presence lists, training register, incident tracking, maps, etc.).
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Deliver briefings and context updates to the Safety Team.
- Assess potential impacts of the evolving context on DRCs programmatic activities.
- Deliver Pre/Post Arrival Briefs to incoming staff (national and international).
- Support in the management of the DRC safety information portal (SharePoint) ensuring that it is up to date, relevant and accessible to a range of users.
Also Safety Assistant will be responsible for:
- Provide technical support to the safety team, ability to maintain and support all normal working process for DRC Sloviansk Office.
- Make purchases related to the safety department for the office premises, guest houses, safety needs of field teams and the vehicle fleet of the entire of the office.
- Provide timely inspection, proper preservation and storage.
- Act as the focal point for the procurement of all necessary safety-related equipment, facilities and other resources.
- Will provide technical support of all DRC safety equipment/communication equipment/safety documentation, review and update all safety documentation, database, trackers, lists related to safety department in DRC Sloviansk Office.
About you
To be successful in the role of Safety Assistant, we expect a minimum of 6 months of experience in any related field, preferably with experience in INGO. We also expect the following:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety or any other related field.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Proficiency with Digital literacy: MS Office applications, including high priority to Excel, Power Point required. Proficiency in data analysis and data visualization.
- Proven ability to work effectively with supervision, meet deadlines, ability to learn and report.
Desirable:
- Experience in safety/security staff for NGO is an advantage but not necessary.
- Level of English starting from B1 is an advantage but not necessary.
- Excellent relationship-building, interpersonal skills and ability to represent DRC.

We offer:
Contract length: 3 months probation period, with the possibility of extension based on funding and satisfactory performance.
