Duties and Responsibilities
The Psychiatrist at the UN Health Care Center will be responsible for delivering comprehensive mental health care services to UN personnel, their families, and eligible beneficiaries. This individual contractor plays a vital role in promoting psychological wellbeing, diagnosing and treating mental health disorders, and supporting overall wellness within the UN community. The individual contractor is expected to uphold the highest standards of medical ethics, professionalism, and confidentiality while working collaboratively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment. The individual contractor will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the UN Health Care Center. The psychiatrist may also collaborate with other clinical leads and administrative staff as required. Duties & Responsibilities • Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and develop individualized treatment plans tailored to patient needs. • Provide a full range of psychiatric care, including medication management, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and emergency mental health services. • Educate patients on mental health conditions, treatment options, coping strategies, and the importance of regular follow-up care. • Prepare and maintain accurate, comprehensive psychiatric records and documentation for referring clinicians as required. • Consult with medical and allied health staff regarding psychiatric findings and recommend further investigations or specialist referrals when appropriate. • Ensure the proper operation, maintenance, and safety of all psychiatric equipment and adhere to infection control and confidentiality protocols. • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to the overall patient management plans.
Qualifications/special skills
• A first-level university degree that qualifies the holder for registration as a licensed Medical Doctor with Specialty Certificate in Psychiatry • The candidate must hold current, unrestricted registration with the medical licensing authority of a United Nations Member State. • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible clinical experience after specialization • Previous work experience in an international organization, such as the United Nations, is considered an advantage.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this role, fluency in both oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
