Result of Service

The ENT Doctor will provide specialized ear, nose, and throat (ENT) medical care to UN staff and eligible beneficiaries at the UN Health Care Center. This includes the diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic ENT conditions, patient education, and collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams. The role also involves maintaining high standards of medical ethics, confidentiality, and quality assurance in line with UN Health Care Center protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities

The ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) Doctor at the UN Health Care Center will be responsible for providing comprehensive otolaryngology services to UN personnel, their families, and eligible beneficiaries. This role is essential in diagnosing, treating, and managing a broad spectrum of ENT conditions within the UN community. The ENT Doctor is expected to uphold the highest standards of medical ethics, professionalism, and confidentiality while collaborating effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment. This IC Service is located at the United Nations Health Care Center in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Division of Administration. The present ToR is intended to guide the ICs in the dispensation of their duties at UNHCC to ensure clients’ satisfaction and respect the organization’s rules and regulations from the health standpoint of view RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and any designated Officer, the IC will perform the following duties: • Conduct thorough clinical assessments and diagnoses of ear, nose, and throat disorders, and develop individualized treatment plans tailored to patient needs. • Perform a variety of ENT procedures, including endoscopic examinations, minor surgical interventions, and audiometric testing as required. • Provide medical management for acute and chronic ENT conditions, including infections, allergies, hearing loss, and voice or swallowing disorders. • Educate patients on disease prevention, symptom management, and post-treatment care to promote long-term ear, nose, and throat health. • Prepare and maintain accurate, comprehensive medical records and reports for referring clinicians and relevant stakeholders. • Consult with other healthcare professionals regarding ENT findings and recommend further investigations, imaging, or specialist referrals when appropriate. • Ensure proper usage, maintenance, and safety of ENT medical equipment, adhering to infection control and safety protocols. • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development and implementation of comprehensive patient management plans.

Qualifications/special skills

• A first-level university degree that qualifies the holder for registration as a licensed medical practitioner (MD, MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent) with a specialty in ENT is required. • The candidate must hold current, unrestricted registration with the medical licensing authority of a United Nations Member State. • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible clinical experience in ENT or clinical experience in one of relevant fields of medicine is required. • At least three to five years of work experience after specialization in ENT is required. • Previous work experience in an international organization is considered an advantage.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this role, fluency in both oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
