Duties and Responsibilities

The UN Health Care Center has the responsibility to provide both core and non-core services to all UN staff and the eligible dependents based in Ethiopia. The core services are provided by the regular staff, that include physicians and a few supportive para-medical staff. The non-core services also known as curative services are provided both by regular physicians and consultants who are recruited in different fields of medicine. The Psychiatry service is intended to provide core and non-core services to UN staff and the dependents in this field. This individual contractor Service is located at the United Nations Health Care Center in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Division of Administration. The present ToR is intended to guide the ICs in the dispensation of their duties at UNHCC to ensure clients’ satisfaction and respect the organization’s rules and regulations from the health standpoint of view. RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and any designated Officer, the IC will perform the following duties: Registering Patients who request Physiotherapy services in the electronic medical records. • Scheduling Physiotherapy sessions after discussing the plan with the physiotherapist. • Sending Telephone or email appointment reminders to clients • Request Letter of Guarantee from Insurance company for physiotherapy service when needed. • Ensure that all Payments related to physiotherapy treatment is paid timely. • Monitor patients' vital signs, range of motion, and other relevant parameters during treatment sessions. • Assist physiotherapists and physical therapists in the delivery of physiotherapy treatments and rehabilitation programs. • Provide basic physiotherapy interventions such as heat/cold therapy, massage, stretching,and exercise under the supervision of a qualified physiotherapist. • Document patient progress, treatment details, and any concerns or adverse events in the patient's medical record. • Prepare and maintain physiotherapy equipment, treatment areas, and supplies to ensure a safe and clean environment. • Educate patients and their caregivers on home exercise programs, proper use of assistive devices, and strategies for managing their condition. • Communicate effectively with the physiotherapy team, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care. • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives related to physiotherapy services. • Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and professional standards of practice. • Works closely with respective unit heads of UNHCC in issues relating to equipment, accessories and parts for better service provision and quality of work. • Assist in preparation of health education materials for patients on area of specialty. • Participates in the monthly continuous medical education and present topics in the field of physiotherapy to the rest of UNHCC personnel. • Performs the above services with empathy, care and the best ethical considerations to maintain confidentiality and avoid sharing patients’ medical condition with anybody in any form (using data for research purpose or in public lectures) without prior writ ten consent of the patient and without duress. • Demonstrates team spirit and be punctual at all times, including informing UNHCC administration at least 3 weeks in advance on any changes to the individual timetable and exceptionally days before to allow for replacement to be sought for.

Qualifications/special skills

Education: Diploma in clinical nursing. Additional Training in Physiotherapy is an advantage Minimum of four years of experience as a nurse out of which two years in a physiotherapy center. The work at the clinic requires the use of an electronic medical record system. Computer skills: full command of Microsoft applications (word, excel, PowerPoint) and common internet applications will be required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this role, fluency in both oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
