The Business Support Associate (FSQ) SC6 will work under direct supervision of Food Technologist in Country Office, Dhaka and provide technical support to programme and supply chain functions to ensure that all food assistance operations meet WFP’s food safety, quality, and compliance standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):


1.    Collate and analyze data and contribute to the preparation of reports relating to food quality and safety, to inform risk management and mitigation and contribute to a WFP wide view of food technology activities
2.    Prepare evidenced based recommendations for vendors and partners on control measures to combat and reduce food commodity losses and food quality and safety issues.
3.    Contribute towards the development and/or implementation of protocols and tools relating to food technology issues, ensuring alignment with WFP procurement and supply chain strategy, policies and plans.
4.    Coordinate and monitor inspection, sampling, and laboratory analysis for all WFP purchased food commodities, ensuring timely reporting and follow-up of non-conformities. 
5.    Provide specialized support on food safety and quality (FSQ) activities, food fortification, following standard processes and contributing, directly or indirectly, to the effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries.
6.    Support project teams on the food technology aspects of food assistance programs in designing, implementing, and monitoring food-based interventions such as school feeding program and rice fortification ensuring compliance with WFP food and safety regulations.
7.    Coordinate food safety and quality (FSQ) assessments, monitoring and periodic evaluation of all suppliers and processors (Food Traders/Manufacturers/mills/Inspection and laboratory service provider, pest control & fumigation etc.)
8.    Support the capacity building of WFP staff and partners for efficient and effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries (e.g. through the design and review of training materials).
9.    Support proper implementation of Good Storage and Distribution practices and pest control and management systems in WFP and partner warehouses.
10.    In the event of food safety incidents, support investigation exercises to enable lessons learned to be documented and shared, to reduce re-occurrence of the incident.
11.    Perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education: Completion of University Degree (Bachelors) in Food Science, Supply Chain, Logistics, Food Technology/Engineering, Food Safety, Agriculture, Nutrition or any relevant subject.

Experience: At least 6 years of work experience in food safety, quality assurance, food technology within food manufacturing, fortification, or large-scale food supply chain operations or any related experience.

Language: Fluency in spoken and written both in English and Bangla language.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in food safety, quality assurance, food technology within food manufacturing, fortification, or large-scale food supply chain operations.

  • Experience with food safety management systems (HACCP, GMP, FSMS) and national food regulatory systems, handling and warehousing practices. warehouse food handling procedures.
