The Trade and Supply Chain Finance Department (CTS) is a core IFC industry group delivering investment and advisory solutions through a global platform. CTS supports global trade flows, supply chain resilience, and access to finance for financial institutions and corporates, while advancing IFC corporate priorities, including market creation, mobilization, climate, gender, and Fragile and Conflict-Affected Situations (FCS).
To support the continued growth and strategic importance of its advisory business, CTS is seeking a Global Advisory Lead based in Washington, DC. The position provides global leadership, strategic direction, and technical oversight for CTS Advisory activities across regions and products, in close coordination with regional teams, upstream units, and World Bank counterparts.
The CTS Global Advisory Lead will be based in Washington, DC and will report to CTS senior management. The position will work closely with regional CTS Leads, Advisory Services management, and relevant IFC and WBG corporate units.
The role is classified as a non-managerial GG2 position and does not carry formal people-management authority; however, it requires strong leadership, technical credibility, and the ability to influence and coordinate across the global CTS platform.
Duties and Accountabilities
A. Strategic Leadership and Product Direction
• Define and drive the global strategic direction for CTS Advisory in alignment with IFC corporate priorities and CTS departmental strategy.
• Lead the design, refinement, and scaling of CTS advisory products and platforms, ensuring relevance, innovation, and strong development impact.
• Contribute to CTS departmental planning, strategy discussions, and priority-setting as part of the extended CTS leadership team.
B. Business Development and Operational Oversight
• Support regional CTS teams in originating, structuring, and delivering high-quality advisory engagements with financial institutions, corporates, and public-sector counterparts.
• Ensure advisory engagements are client-driven, scalable, financially sustainable, and closely linked to investment, mobilization, and pipeline development objectives.
• Provide technical and quality assurance oversight across the global advisory portfolio, including review of concepts, implementation plans, and completion documentation.
C. Integration and Institutional Collaboration
• Strengthen integration between CTS advisory and investment operations to enhance pipeline development and portfolio quality.
• Coordinate closely with World Bank Global Practices, other IFC industry groups, and cross-cutting corporate units to deliver joint and integrated solutions where relevant.
• Represent CTS Advisory in internal governance processes, corporate initiatives, and external engagements, as required.
D. Portfolio Management, Knowledge, and Impact
• Oversee performance of the global CTS advisory portfolio, including monitoring of results, risks, and development impact.
• Lead knowledge management and learning efforts, capturing lessons learned and disseminating best practices across regions.
• Contribute to thought leadership through analytical work, market notes, knowledge products, and participation in internal and external forums.
E. Capability Building and Collaboration
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and coaching to CTS advisory staff across regions, fostering collaboration and technical excellence.
• Support capability building, skills development, and succession planning for CTS advisory functions.
• Promote diversity, inclusion, and teamwork across the global CTS advisory community.
Selection Criteria
• Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, International Development, or a related field.
• A minimum of 12–15 years of relevant professional experience, including substantial exposure to advisory services in trade finance, financial institutions, supply chains, or private sector development.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex, multi-country advisory programs within IFC, the World Bank Group, other development finance institutions, or comparable organizations.
• Strong understanding of trade finance, supply chain finance, SME finance, and development finance in emerging markets.
• Proven strategic thinking skills and ability to translate strategy into operational and advisory results.
• Strong client engagement, business development, and stakeholder relationship management skills.
• Excellent judgment, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a matrixed, global organization.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across institutional boundaries, cultures, and disciplines.
• Fluency in English is required; additional languages are an advantage.
