Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:

International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development projects. Established in in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses to address the critical need for medical care in countries that haven experience war, hardships, and epidemics. International Medical Corps continues to implement programming in Sierra Leone post-Ebola outbreak, focused on addressing humanitarian needs of the most vulnerable while also supporting training and capacity-building.

International Medical Corps is recruiting a Project Director, to be based in Sierra Leone, for an anticipated 14 month project to strengthen health services as part of the post-Ebola transition. The project is designed to increase capacity and effectiveness of the health workforce and community platforms to improve quality of RMNCH services and improve physical and operational conditions in Community Health and Maternal Child Health Posts.


The Project Director will be responsible for the overall management of the project, supervise project implementation and staff, and serve as the principle interlocutor with the donor and key stakeholders. The Project Director will take a leadership role in coordination among various partners, and sub-awardees and/or contractors, ensuring the project meets stated goals and reporting requirements.


1.Ensure strategic objectives and project results are accomplished and meet technical quality standards.

2.Act as primary project contact to the donor, taking responsibility for addressing all related project matters as identified by the donor.

3.Lead consortium in preparation and execution of workplans, compliance with standard operating procedures, and completion of deliverables and reports by project staff and/or sub-contractors.

4.Oversee project monitoring and evaluation, ensuring effective use of data and insights for project adaptation and evolution, organizational learning, and sharing lessons with stakeholders during implementation and beyond.

5.Ensure effective representation and relationship management with relevant stakeholders.

6.Ensure coordination with other donor-funded projects to maximize impact and avoid redundancy.

7.Collaborate with International Medical Corps’ Global Security team to support staff and beneficiary safety and effective project implementation.

HR Management

1.Establish project team. Recruit, lead, manage, and supervise International Medical Corps’ and consortium staff to meet objectives of the project.

2.Conduct periodic reviews of staff performance, ensure high levels of motivation and teamwork.

3.Manage recruitment portfolio for the project in collaboration with International Medical Corps Gaza country management to ensure optimal service delivery.

4.Ensure project and consortium staff are effectively inducted, including ensuring familiarity and compliance with International Medical Corps’ Code of Conduct, ethics, and values, as well as project-specific goals.



•Experience as Program Manager/Director on a USAID-funded contract, preferably in West Africa or similar context.

•At least 10 years of experience in health, humanitarian assistance, and emergency response, plus experience in managing complex international-donor funded development activities in challenging environments.

•An advanced degree (minimum a Master’s degree) in medicine, public health, health administration, international health or a related field.

•Demonstrated outstanding leadership, project management, coordination, organizational, teamwork and strategic planning skills.

•Proven ability to work effectively with multiple host-country counterparts and representatives from other key stakeholders such as NGOs, the UN, and other donors.

•Prior work experience in Sierra Leone or West Africa region highly desirable.

•Strong verbal and written English communication skills required.

•Understanding of USG and USAID regulations.

•Based in Sierra Leone, with frequent travel in project areas, security permitting.
