To Head its Multimedia Unit, UNHCR is looking for candidates with an expertise in increasing financial support, awareness and empathy particularly for forcibly displaced and stateless people. The individual should possess leadership and coordination abilities, management and creative innovation skills, and proven global campaign organization. S/he will manage a programme of forward-looking and issue based communications planning in support of major events, campaigns and advocacy activities of UNHCR and will build and manage relationships with UNHCR officials at all levels, at headquarters and in the field. The Chief of Section will develop contacts with external stakeholders, including opinion leaders and influential public figures, to garner better recognition of UNHCR's mission and goals and bring about more support and tolerance for the people UNHCR serves.

RESPONSIBILITIES

§ Manage resources and coordinate with relevant entities within UNHCR for Nansen Refugee Award, World Refugee Day, Goodwill Ambassador Programme and other events and campaigns.

§ Lead, plan and manage the work programme of the section including formulating strategies to optimize the exposure of UNHCR strategic priorities.

§ Conceptualize, design and execute specific campaigns in collaboration with the Chief of the Strategic Communications section.

§ Measure impact according to key performance indicators, assess the overall effectiveness of the section's work and make changes where required.

§ Develop and manage the section's work plans and budget, ensuring that managerial and decisions are strategically and economically sound and appropriately focused on results and impact.

§ Supervise and further develop UNHCR's Goodwill Ambassador programme, Visitor's Centre in Geneva, as well as the Visibility Unit with the aim of delivering greater impact.

QUALIFICATIONS

§ Advanced University Degree in political science, international relations, strategic communications, journalism or other related fields.

§ Minimum of 15 years of experience in progressively responsible functions managing sensitive communication challenges at least 10 of which for an international institution or organisation or for a public relations firm handling such clients.

§ Excellent diplomatic skills, and highly developed political skills and judgment, and understanding of UNHCR's external relationships.

§ Fluency in written and spoken English with working knowledge in another relevant UN language.
