1. Background

The UNICEF Gambia Country Office has a significant drive to boost its fund raising potential. Given the global financial crunch, it is critical that innovative fundraising initiatives are explored to ensure sustainability of interventions geared towards supporting the Government of The Gambia to fulfill the rights of children and women. In order to effectively fundraise, it is important that UNICEF’s office in The Gambia strengthens its capacity to articulate the Gambian story in terms of gains made and best practices that have driven change in various sectors. Not only is it important to document some of the successes of The Gambia, it is also important to engage effectively with the media to ensure proper dissemination.

2. *Purpose of the Position*

The consultant would be conducting specific tasks that would contribute to UNICEF’s work in communications, external relations and also fundraising. Specifically, the consultant would support documentation and social media engagement.

3.Major Duties/Responsibilities

i. Work with Ministry of Education in documenting the best practices and lessons learned from their coordination efforts across the sector such as the Joint Donor Review Mission, the Local Education Group (LEG) and the Education sector CCM

ii. Work with Ministry of Education to document the story behind its attainment of the MDG target related to gender parity in primary school

iii. Work with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to document the story behind staff motivation and retention at the Bansang hospital for replication in other health institutions.

iv. Work with relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies to document the story behind the quantum leap achievement of Birth Registration from 32% to 72%

v. Work with other ministries and agencies to document lessons learned, best practices and good models that require replication which would inform our fundraising initiatives

vi. Develop a system for a dynamic social media engagement for the UNICEF Gambia country office looking at social movements for sustainable change involving youth

vii. Develop a media engagement plan for the office

4.Qualifications of Successful Candidate

· Bachelor’s Degree

· Communications experience

· Social media experience or skill set

· Excellent writing skills

*Languages:*English, Wolof are necessary; and other local languages would be an asset.
