Project Manager


OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : Under the leadership of ADG HIS, the Ebola Research and Development Task Team coordinates the review, prioritization and testing of new and experimental medical interventions against Ebola. Subsequent to the Ebola Research and Development Summit organized by WHO in May 2015, the World Health Assembly "Welcomed the development of a Blueprint-in consultation with Member States and relevant stakeholders- for accelerating research and development in epidemics or other health emergency situations where there are no, or insufficient, preventive, and curative solutions, taking into account other relevant work-streams within WHO". Description of duties: - Manages the preparation of the Blueprint, coordinating the work of the 5 workstreams to ensure the coherence of the overall product.- Manages the collation of information, data, and perspectives to develop the Blueprint.- Serves as the Secretariat for the Scientific Advisory Group (SAG) for the Blueprint.- Represents the Organization at scientific and other fora.- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.Achievements include: the Blueprint document presented to the WHA in 2016; the Blueprint implementation strategy. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education:Essential:Advanced university degree (Masters or PhD) in a relevant subject such as medical studies, biology, immunology, infectious diseases, virology or microbiology.In the event that your candidature is retained for an interview, you will be required to provide, in advance, a scanned copy of the degree(s)/diploma(s)/certificate(s) required for this position. Skills: Essential knowledge and skills:Knowledge of the issues concerning control of severe emerging and re-emerging diseases and outbreaks. A good perspective of the current Research and Development landscape for product development. Familiarity with the evidentiary and ethical requirements of working in the global health context will be required. Diplomacy and experience in interaction in diverse cultural settings are essential. As the timeline for delivery of the Blueprint is short, the staff member must possess the ability to work under pressure, and the personal skills to mobilise necessary inputs from colleagues and collaborators.Competencies:1. Experience: Essential:A minimum of 10 years of relevant national/ international experience across the areas described under Essential technical skills, expertise and knowledge below. Experience in management of units, centres or institutions relevant to severe emerging diseases and viral haemorrhagic fevers; Experience in performing research, and in particular in the field of emerging infectiousdiseases. Experience in network building for research collaborations in response to public health threats and emergencies, including international collaborations; Experience in programme development and project management for complex research responses; Experience in working with high-level government officials; Experience of disease control research needs of Lower and Middle Incoume Countries (LMICs); Experience of capacity-building initiatives for biomedical research in LMICs.Desirable:An understanding of the global funding environment and some familiarity with mechanisms of public/private partnerships for global health are highly desirable. They consist of a base salary and a post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station and exchange rates.
