BACKGROUND

International Medical Corps, a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs, seeks candidates for the position of Technical Advisor – Gender Based Violence in Kenya.

Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Position Summary & Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY**

International Medical Corps is seeking a Technical Advisor - Gender Based Violence for an anticipated project. The primary function of the Technical Advisor GBV is to provide comprehensive technical support to International Medical Corps GBV component across all sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work closely with the PI, program managers, and field teams to determine the operational needs of the program across all sites
• Identify and reinforce existing GBV support mechanisms and work closely with existing GOK structures, Key Populations other stakeholders local counterparts to ensure community awareness, cultural appropriateness and buy-in and cultural appropriateness
• Coordinate with county government, line ministries, local and international NGOs, UN agencies and other stakeholders to ensure holistic support for KP & PP GBV survivors, including participation in developing and/or maintaining GBV referral pathways
• Develop appropriate case management and referral systems
• Manage and share GBV case information in line with GBV national guidelines guiding principles, survivor wishes and security consideration
• Analyze trends of GBV and develop/adjust program strategies to meet needs
• Work with teams to develop appropriate health and psychosocial support activities
• Work with teams and communities to develop GBV IEC specific IEC materials and conduct raising awareness activities
• Conduct assessments to inform decision making for the program
• Compile monthly and quarterly reports, on time and with accurate data and ensure data is uploaded to DHIS
• Maintain flexibility to take on added responsibility as and when needed
• Assist in the selection and training of qualified program staff at all sites
• Supervise and mentor staff implementing GBV activities
• Develop support strategies for GBV staff and introduce principles of self-care
• Train GBV staff to become leaders of GBV prevention and response among KPs. Depending on skill sets and required roles, trainings may include: gender, guiding principles of addressing GBV, GBV case management, referral pathway development, compassionate care, facilitation skills, mobilization, project cycle management, etc.
• Organize and support clinical trainings, as appropriate.
• Participate in cluster/sector & coordination meetings relevant to the program
• Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies
• Consider security implications of all program activities, reviewing all new initiatives with staff, CDC, county governments and community leaders

Skills & Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, International Development or other relevant field of study

• At least Five years’ field experience in GBV program design and implementation.

• Familiarity with international humanitarian operations, coordination structures, and the mandates of CDC.

• Proven knowledge and experience in developing and implementing community mobilization projects

• Strong written and oral communications skills including ability to write technical documents and give presentations.

• Understanding of Kenyan National Policies & priorities.

• Profound cross-cultural awareness.

• Supervisory experience & ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.

• Extremely flexible and creative with ability to cope with stressful situations & frustrations with limited resources

• Ability to relate to and motivate national staff effectively.

• Team player with strong communication skills both oral and written.

• Proficient in computer applications, especially with MS Word and MS Excel, MS PowerPoint a plus
