Aim:
Child Protection Assistant is responsible for providing support to officers on their daily activities. Moreover, he/she will be responsible for monitoring the recreational activities conducted by the partners in Child Friendly Spaces and to supervise the daily work conducted by volunteers conducting awareness raising sessions. 
 
 
 
Reporting lines:
  • Reports to: Child Protection Officers according to Locations
  • Subordinates: No direct subordinates
 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Undertake site and field visits to ensure child protection recreational activities are implemented according to minimum standards and agreement between partners and DRC.
  • Supervise the work of the volunteers conducting awareness campaigns and ensure that dissemination of clear and reliable information on service provision is provided.
  • Report on the progress of the work-plan on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
  • Contribute to the identification of the most vulnerable individuals and people with special needs according to DRC guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures, who meet the agreed vulnerability criteria for the receipt of Cash Assistance, NFI and food Assistance and/or Medical assistance. Special attention will be given to women at risk.
  • Contribute in conducting needs assessments and Focus Group Discussions with the displaced and host community, particularly the most vulnerable women and children, to identify common protection needs, priorities and existing capacities within the community.
  • Contribute to increasing the community’s own capacity to improve their own safety and protection.
  • Undertake site/field visits to verify social needs of children, evaluate their living conditions and prepare recommendations accordingly.
  • Identify vulnerable individuals in accordance with DRC criteria and inform the Protection Officer in order that s/he can organize case referral to other service providers within the Community Centre or partner NGOs and follow up accordingly.
  • Ensure that all activities are accurately documented and filed in the database.
  • Provide regular feedback to the Protection Officer on progress, lessons learned, achievements, gaps, issues and problems. 
  • Contribute to the preparation of weekly/monthly plans and reports on activities.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager
 
 
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
  • Relevant professional experience of 2 (two) years, with emphasis on social work and working with children. 
  • Familiarity/prior experience with DRC and its persons of concern (including internally displaced persons, returnees, and refugees) would be a distinct advantage;
  • Familiarity/prior experience with NGO sector would be an advantage.
  • Excellent spoken and written Arabic (English would be an advantage) and relevant computer skills.
  • Full respect for client/organisation confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and respect for people with special needs and other vulnerability.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team player.
 
 
Preferred  Qualifications and Experience:
  • University degree would be an asset. 
  • Report writing skills.

Languages: 
  • Spoken and written English and/or Arabic.
