Policy Manager - Inequality

Oxford | London

Does the fact that 62 people have the same wealth as the bottom half of humanity anger you?

Want to do something about it?

Do you want to play a leadership role in Oxfam's global Even it Up campaign to fight extreme economic inequality around the world? Do you have strong policy and advocacy experience, and a passionate commitment to using these skills to help create a better, more equal world?

Then come and join us!

The role

Across the world, we’re seeing rising inequality within countries. What is driving this trend? What impact does this have on poverty? And how can we influence decision-makers within governments and major institutions to adopt policies that will turn the tide, and create fairer and stronger economies and societies?

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the development of new policy and research on extreme inequality, and for identifying opportunities to advocate and campaign for an end to the extreme and growing gap between rich and poor, within and between countries. You will work to deliver policy and advocacy work at a national, regional and global level, including commissioning and producing new research and advocacy products to support our change strategies. You will work with Oxfam colleagues across the world, as well as holding key external relationships and helping to form new ones. The work you do will enable our campaign to be at its most strategic in tackling the root causes of poverty and inequality.

What we’re looking for

You will bring a strong background in research and policy development and strategy, and proven leadership experience. You will have policy expertise in economic inequality, and related issues such as labour rights, public services and tax justice. Experience of advocacy is essential, as is experience of working internationally, including in or with teams based in the global south. You’ll also need to be a clear and strategic thinker with experience of lobbying key targets across government, international institutions and the private sector; you will be someone who knows how to act to influence successfully at the highest levels. Well-developed interpersonal skills and a talent for communicating with diverse audiences are therefore essential. Of course, you’ll share our passion and commitment to eradicating extreme inequality, and to changing the rules that keep some people poor whilst others prosper.

Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
