This isn't just a chance to change your job. It's a chance to change lives.
Are you looking for an opportunity to impact staff wellbeing in a humanitarian organization?
Regional Staff Counsellor (P4)
West and Central Africa Region (WCARO), Dakar, Senegal
For 70 years, UNICEF has been working on the ground in 190 countries and territories to promote children's survival, protection and development. UNICEF staff are frequently exposed to high levels of day-to-day stress related to living and working in multicultural, often unstable and insecure, environments. UNICEF is committed to creating a work environment where staff wellness, resilience and work life balance are integrated in the organizational culture.
As the Regional Staff Counsellor you will provide technical guidance to the staff and management of the regional and country offices in the West and Central Africa Region (WCAR), to support the overall wellbeing of UNICEF staff and their families. You will contribute towards the corporate UNICEF Staff Wellbeing Framework and promote its implementation in WCAR, to include facilitating wellbeing workshops; coordinate the regional network of Peer Support Volunteers (PSV’s), including selection, training and technical supervision; facilitate the provision of assistance to staff and their families experiencing work related and/or personal problems, including providing individual and group counselling; ensure the provision of critical incident stress management following traumatic incidents. Mission travels and field visits to locations where UNICEF staff are living and working form a key part of the job.
We’re looking for a mental health professional with an advanced university degree (equivalent to a Masters) in counselling, clinical psychology or related mental health profession, with at least eight years of combined national and international professional experience in staff support, mental health, cross cultural communications, counselling, and related areas, preferably gained within the UN system or international development/humanitarian aid sector. Additional training or certification in staff support and traumatic/critical incident stress, as well as a broad range of related fields such as alcohol/substance abuse, family counselling, training, and stress management would be beneficial. Fluency in written and spoken French and English is essential.
