Psychologist, Stress Management Advisor, OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine

Requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • An advanced degree in clinical Psychology/Psychiatry with a clinical license to provide psychological counselling or psychotherapy

  • At least six years of relevant professional experience, including a minimum of one year of relevant work experience at an international level

  • Experience in Employees Assistance Programmes or Organizational Intervention and in accordance, experience with evaluation of programmes in order to monitor and supervise the programmes

  • Experience in development of training material, evidence-based assessment and policy analysis

  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills

  • Ability to cope with physical hardship and willingness to work extra hours and in an environment with limited infrastructure; proven resilience to high stress environments

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as a member of a team, with people of different cultural and religious backgrounds, different gender, and diverse political views, while maintaining impartiality and objectivity

  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, as well as the ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities

  • Valid international driving license and willingness to travel throughout Ukraine

  • Ability to operate Windows applications including word processing and email, as well as other medical software

  • Knowledge of Russian and/or Ukrainian languages (desirable)

  • Additional training or certification in related fields, such as: stress management, traumatic stress, conflict resolution, debriefing, teambuilding, alcohol/substance abuse, cross cultural psychology or psychiatry, etc. (desirable)

  • Experience of working in Eastern Europe and/or knowledge of the region (desirable)

  • Experience with the OSCE, UN common system and/or other international organizations (desirable)

Tasks and Responsibilities

Initial duration of appointment/assignment for this post is until 31 March 2017, subject to a subsequent OSCE Permanent Council Decision to extend the mandate of the Mission.

If applicable, deployment is subject to attendance to and successful completion of pre-deployment training and assessment.

Under the overall guidance of the Medical Officer, the incumbent will provide psychological support to the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine's (SMM) staff coherent to the psychosocial needs of Mission members. More specifically, the Psychologist/Stress Management Adviser will be responsible for the following tasks:

  1. Performs individual assessments and support in the case of Mission members experiencing difficulties coping and/or presenting mental health-related symptoms or syndromes;
  2. Advises the Medical Officer as necessary, on individual and/or group cases where an identified problem is likely to have professional and personal effect (e.g. work-related problem due to a psychological problem, conflict resolution, etc.);
  3. Advises Team and Hub Management as necessary, or upon request, with the aim of improving the working atmosphere in their teams and resolving problems of a work-related or personal nature, which adversely affect job performance and productivity;
  4. Monitors environmental factors that could lead to stress, with particular focus on stress related to critical incidents including emergency and crisis situations, with respect to all Mission members of the mission and advises Team and Hub Management on the appropriate measures to be taken;
  5. Plans, develops, implements and delivers stress management training, as well as resilience-building courses for all Mission members in the SMM;
  6. Performs psychological first aid (e.g. individual and/or group) whenever and wherever there is a need upon a critical incident;
  7. Assures, in conjunction with the Medical Services, a continuum of services (referral, short-term supportive intervention) to Mission members, in case needed;
  8. Liaises with National Mental health professionals and other psycho-medical resources; ensures effective co-ordinating with other international organizations and liaison with governmental and non-governmental agencies;
  9. Performs other related tasks as assigned.
