Are you ready to act with poor people as a force for change in addressing the causes of poverty, suffering and injustice, and alleviating their symptoms? We are looking for someone like you to fill the position of Programme Officer – Policy and Advocacy?
Oxfam is implementing a 4 year aimed at enhancing socio-economic empowerment of poor and vulnerable urban women dependent on the informal economy in Nairobi Urban informal settlements. The project is implemented in partnership with 3 local organizations, and specifically works with over 30,000 women small scale traders and women domestic workers to increase their livelihood opportunities, build their equity and resilience, empower them on their rights; and develop their advocacy skills.
Your role will be to provide technical leadership on policy and advocacy aspects of the EC funded project ‘promoting livelihoods and Inclusion of vulnerable women domestic workers and women small scale traders. To build partner’s capacity on influencing policy and practice; and advocacy. To link the policy and advocacy work to other county, national and international initiatives addressing similar issues etc.
To be considered for this role you must have a Degree in law or political science or social studies. At least 3 years experience in influencing government, donors, and other organizations through representation and/or advocacy, especially national governments. Ability to analyze policy, develop policy briefs and advocacy plans. Significant experience in campaigns, advocacy and lobbying. Experience in translating research into advocacy action plans. Significant experience of working in partnership with grassroots civil society organizations, national and international NGOs and networks. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage organizational and people relationships. Knowledge of social. Experience in rights based programming and experience in organizational capacity development.
