1.         Organizational context

 

The post is located in the Development Agenda Coordination Division (DACD) which is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the WIPO Development Agenda.

 

The Division serves as the Secretariat for the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP), and facilitates its work in defining actions for the implementation of the Development Agenda recommendations and review of their implementation.  For this purpose, the Division also interfaces with internal and external stakeholders and promotes a better understanding of the WIPO Development Agenda and its benefits.

 

The incumbent is responsible for contributing to the implementation of the Development Agenda and its mainstreaming of related programs and activities including supporting the organization of the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP).

 

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Director of the Division.

 

2.         Duties and responsibilities

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties\:

 

(a)  Contribute to the coordination and preparation of documentation and reports for the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP).

 

(b)  Provide substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation, including the review and analysis of issued identified following the external review of the implementation of the Development Agenda recommendations and follow up on related actions.

 

(c)  Carry out research, draft reports, prepare documentation and compile information in support of the development, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of Development Agenda projects and activities.

 

(d)  Monitor specific aspects of the Development Agenda implementation, identify problems and propose actions to expedite or improve service delivery. Analyze progress, identify and document significant events, decisions or deviations and record future activities.

 

(e)  Participate in missions or meetings, provide information and support with respect to the implementation of the Development Agenda and recommend activities or action points.

 

(f)   Regularly review and update the Division’s web presence and related web sites and make recommendations for improvement. Maintain databases, respond to and coordinate requests for information.

 

(g)  Provide logistical, administrative and substantive support with regards to the organization of Committee sessions and other CDIP-related meetings.

 

(h)  Establish and maintain contact with relevant internal and external stakeholders as directed, including Member States and intergovernmental organizations.

 

(i)    Perform other related duties as required.

 

 

3.         Requirements

 

Education

 

Essential

First-level university degree in development studies, economics, international relations, law or a related discipline.

 

Desirable

Specialization in IP law.

 

Experience

 

Essential

At least three years’ relevant professional experience including experience obtained at the international level.

 

Experience in supporting intergovernmental negotiations, developing plans and coordinating and implementing decisions at an international level.

  

Desirable

Experience in the field of IP and / or IP and development.

 

Project management experience.

 

Languages

 

         Essential

Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.

 

Desirable

Knowledge of other official UN languages, particularly French and Spanish.

5.         Information

 

Mobility\:  Candidates appointed to an international position with WIPO are subject to mobility and may be assigned to any activity or duty station of the Organization throughout the world.

 

Annual salary\:

Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment.  The post adjustment (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change without notice in accordance with the rates as set within the UN Common System for salaries and allowances.  The figures quoted below are based on the January 2017 rate of 76.5%

Salaries and allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations.

Additional Information

 

Initial period of two years, renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.  No fixed-term appointment or any extension hereof shall carry with it any expectancy of, nor imply any right to, (further) extensions or conversion to a permanent appointment.

 

This vacancy announcement may be used to fill other posts at the same grade with similar functions in accordance with Staff Rule 4.9.4.
