About the job

The Country Director drives SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL’s response to the needs of crisis affected populations in Northern Syria.

Therefore, working in collaboration with the country team and HQ Desk team, the CD provides leadership in the definition of SI’s Strategy for Northern Syria, for the fundraising strategy and for the implementation of the programmes in line with defined priorities, SI’s approaches and operational framework. He/she oversees the quality and relevance of the programmes implemented, ensures accountability and donor compliance, supervises the mobilization of resources (HR, financial and logistics) and as SI representative in country, he/she establishes a strong coordination with all stakeholders including authorities, donors and partners. He/she is responsible for the safety and security of all staff and assets. Within SI’s Middle-East regional set-up, he/she contributes to building SI’s regional approach to the Syrian crisis and to develop strong analysis, comprehensive responses, and strong networks.

Key priorities:

The main priority for the CD will be to be a driving force to enable the full development of the mission and the launching of new programmes through the following key responsibilities:

  • To maintain a constant and in-depth understanding of the geopolitical context and the humanitarian needs
  • To lead the definition of SI’s country strategy for Northern Syria based on a in-depth analysis of the needs, the context, the potential scenarios and SI’s past experiences.
  • To uphold the growth of the mission through active fundraising and new programmes development.
  • To ensure active external representation to establish close coordination with all key stakeholders, donors, authorities and partners.
  • To ensure the required resources are mobilized to accompany properly the launching of new sectors of intervention in country and the associated mission’s scale-up (HR, financial, logistics)
  • To provide guidance and supervision to the coordination team in Turkey, including support to the management of all teams in Turkey and Syria.
  • To support the Humanitarian Access Advisor in the development of a safety information network and access negotiations.
  • To support the strengthening of all procedures and aspects related to the remote management.

Your profile

Required knowledge, experience and skills:

  • More than 5 years of professional humanitarian experience, including as Country Director.
  • Demonstrated experience in conflict contexts and insecure environments, with consequent experience in supporting emergency response programming, access negociation and security analysis and management.
  • A keen understanding of the Syrian crisis and previous experience in the Middle East would be a strong asset.
  • Extensive program development and fund raising experience, including in working with major institutional donors, including: OFDA, ECHO, DFID, UN Agencies, etc
  • Successful experience in managing multi-sector programmes especially WASH, Food Security&Livelihoods and cash-based interventions
  • Demonstrated succesful experience in negotiation and external respresentation.
  • Experience in remote management would be an asset.

  • Demonstrated experience and interest in working in complex and volatile environments
  • Capacity to adapt and show organizational flexibility
  • Ability to represent SI towards different stakeholders
  • Good sense of humor and great team member

Languages:

  • Fluent in English
  • Arabic is strong asset
