Intern – Interagency and Humanitarian Partnerships Section (IAHP), EMOPS Geneva

Seeking Intern to support the Inter-Agency Humanitarian Partnerships Section in strengthening the partnerships between UNICEF and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Crescent Societies (IFRC), the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and other humanitarian agencies. Support the tracking and analysing of risks in the context of UNICEF’s Early Warning Early Action work.

LOCATION: Office of Emergency Programmes (EMOPS), based in Geneva, Switzerland

DURATION: 6 Months starting as soon as possible

PURPOSE OF THE INTERNSHIP

To support the Inter-Agency Humanitarian Partnerships Section in strengthening the partnerships between UNICEF and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Crescent Societies (IFRC), the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and other humanitarian agencies. To support the tracking and analysing of risks in the context of UNICEF's Early Warning Early Action work.

KEY END-RESULTS

  • Timely and appropriate support to the Inter-Agency Humanitarian Partnerships Section
  • Timely and high-quality tracking and analysis of risks in the context of UNICEF's early Action Early warming work

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES and DUTIES & TASKS

Humanitarian Partnerships

  • Attend relevant meetings on the UNICEF-IFRC/UNHCR, partnerships, prepare background documents and draft minutes
  • Assist in the organisation of joint UNICEF-IFRC meetings, workshops or events
  • Assist in the mapping and analysis of all existing UNICEF-IFRC/RC/RC/UNHCR collaborations
  • Other related duties as required

Early Warning Early Action

  • Risk tracking: follow risks as featured in UNICEF's risk products in terms of likelihood and impact; capturing changes; and provide a trend analysis
  • Impact analysis: look for reports that describe impact in terms of caseloads/numbers in order to give a sense of a risk's scale
  • Other related duties as required

QUALIFICATION and COMPETENCIES

  1. Education

Current enrolment in a graduate (masters) university degree in Political Science, International Relations, Social Sciences or related areas.

  1. Language Proficiency

Fluency in written and verbal English. Knowledge of another UN language is an asset.

     3.  Other requirements

Proficiency in the use of outlook, word, excel and PPT.

 

Note that internships at UNICEF are unpaid.
