Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA). The incumbents will report to the Chief of Radio of the Communications and Public Information Division.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Chief of the Radio, the Radio Producer is responsible for managing and organizing the news and/or programme department of the Mission’s radio. Within limits of delegated authority, he/she will be responsible for the following duties:
•Develop content ideas and line ups within a 24-hour news and information public service radio format.

•Supervise national staff and all aspects of production of radio programme, including public service announcements, news stories, features and documentaries for local, regional and international use.

•Work with the Chief of Radio to provide raw audio material for: mission products, including for community outreach; internal mission use such as training of mission personnel; United Nations Headquarters; local and international media as appropriate, including media in troop contributing countries; and mission archives.

•Initiate new radio projects and develop radio programme, announcements, features and news segments for broadcast, as required.

•The incumbent produces radio news reports and programme by conducting radio interviews, scriptwriting, producing, narrating and posting news reports and feature programme in French.

•He/she also carries out other assignments as required such as updating webpages and social media platforms using the appropriate language.

•Create programme identities, music themes, styles, and supervise/undertake other production tasks.

•Prepare printed rundowns, scripts and direct programme, and solve production problems.

•Under the supervision of the Chief of Radio, prepare periodic reports on the implementation status of the Radio strategy. Undertake researches, conduct interviews, scenarisation and perform technical production tasks as assigned.

•Exercise editorial judgement over radio production in coordination with the Chief of Radio and Director of Communications and Public Information, where appropriate.

•Performs other duties, as assigned.

Production and programme automation systems. Adept at research, and at planning, writing, producing and editing a program or series of programs.

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in broadcast journalism, in communication, or other related fields. A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Work Experience

Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in radio production. Proven history of overseeing the production of radio programming. Practical international and/or field experience is highly desirable. Region-specific knowledge is an advantage. The incumbent will be required to work in an environment with limited resources and thus creativity and ingenuity are desirable.

Languages

Fluency in English and French (both oral and written) is required. For this position, ability to produce, oversee and coordinate the production of high-quality radio content in French is required.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
