Internship, Opportunity in UNICEF Bangladesh
The Intern will support the SPEAR section to produce a policy brief (5-6 pages) that depicts the situation of child marriage in Bangladesh, past trends and future projections of its prevalence. The document (flier) will aim to serve as a comprehensive piece for advocacy with the government towards reducing child marriage in the country.
Government of Bangladesh has taken strong measures in building awareness among people about the social consequences of child marriage. UNICEF has been engaged in preparing advocacy pieces, drafting strategy documents, supported by the evidence available in the public domain and doing some secondary analysis.
The Social Policy, Evaluation, Analytics and Research (SPEAR) section of UNICEF Bangladesh Country Office, in the recent times, has done some secondary analysis of existing data on child marriage from the published data and documents on women who have been married under the age of 18. Recently, the Data and Analytics Division at UNICEF HQ carried-out a rigorous exercise on projections in child marriage rates using the past data, and currently UNICEF is supporting the Ministry of Finance to carry-out a baseline assessment of expenditures of public resources towards the elimination of child marriage.
An intern is needed to support the SPEAR Section to prepare a policy brief to show the past trends, present situation and future levels of child marriages in Bangladesh, and the implications on national goals. Further, in support of national efforts to end child marriage, there is an opportunity to propose and pilot intervention for a targeted social protection/safety net programme, designed specifically to address the drivers of child marriage in Bangladesh.
