The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

Our Ideal Candidate:

We are seeking a motivated professional individual to join our Syria Response Office’s operations. The ideal candidate will have an university graduate with previous experience in food security and livelihoods projects for an international organization in an emergency or recovery setting.

We are particularly looking for an individual with strong skills in food security and livelihoods projects to ensure high quality and cost effective implementation. He/she is a team leader with a proven history of successful representation; building and maintaining relationships with partners.

Experience in the Middle East is highly desirable, specifically knowledge of the Syria context.

Generic responsibilities

  • Line management of FSL project field staff
  • Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
  • Contribute to FSL strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs and gaps
  • Manage and implement delegated portfolio of FSL projects (activities, budget and project documentation) in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality
  • Provide regular progress reports to area manager
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in the activities
  • Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills

Specific responsibilities

  • Support the start-up and implementation of Food Security and Livelihood activities.
  • Identify information gaps and undertake necessary assessments (including market surveys, needs assessment and monitoring)
  • Support the partners in designing projects and monitoring mechanisms relevant to NRC’s Food Security and Livelihoods strategy
  • Create any tools or processes needed to support the delivery of assistance
  • Technical input into proposals, reports and M&E.
  • Represent NRC in relevant coordination meetings.
  • Document lessons learned and best practices
  • Ensure compliance with all reporting requirements
