BACKGROUND
TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network, works to ensure that trade in wild animals and plants is not a threat to the conservation of nature. We actively monitor and investigate wildlife trade and provide information to diverse audiences worldwide as a basis for effective conservation policies and programmes. TRAFFIC is a strategic alliance of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and is an international network, organised into six regional programmes.

TRAFFIC is implementing a four-year project, ‘Reducing trade threats to Africa’s wild species and ecosystems (ReTTA) through strengthened knowledge and action in Africa and beyond’. The project’s purpose is to strengthen actions to conserve and protect wildlife populations, areas of high biodiversity, and communities in Africa threatened by illegal and unsustainable wildlife trade, with a particular focus on trade to Asia.

The salary range for this position is between USD 23,000 - 29,000 dependent on skills and experience.
JOB DESCRIPTION
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

• Overall responsibility for ensuring the consistent and efficient administration of the ReTTA project for TRAFFIC, including creating and maintaining appropriate administrative record keeping systems with respect to both financial and project management material.
• Working closely with the TRAFFIC International finance and administration team and the project administrators - IUCN SA, to ensure timely reporting and adherence to TRAFFIC’s policies and procedures.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

• Coordinating day to day project administration with the ReTTA Project Leader, researchers and others (including the host organisation’s finance and administration team);
• Providing support with regard to the organisation of and logistics around the compilation and delivery of research and communication materials, workshops and similar deliverables under the project;
• Providing support with regard to scheduling project meetings, writing minutes and agendas and circulating reference materials as required;
• Liaising with the TRAFFIC International finance and administration team regarding the drafting, reviewing and finalising of any necessary project funding arrangements including contracts, procurement procedures and calls for tenders and ensuring the timely transfer of funds to contractees;
• Preparing and monitoring project budgets, workplan, and relevant internal project management tools and contributing as requested.
• Working with TRAFFIC offices on the compilation of financial and technical reports and any other documents as required by the donor.
• Ensuring deadlines are tracked by establishing a monitoring system and alerts for the project team;
• Preparing and reviewing supporting documentation for external audits as required;
• Provision of information on the project as and when required from the TRAFFIC network;
• Other duties as instructed by the ReTTA Project Leader.
